caravan fridge will not work off 12volt or 230v

hello ,got a problem i have taken the caravan fridge out as it will not work off both gas or electric But the elements are getting hot at the back off both gas and electric ,its a N80 fridge ,its the one that as the A=energy source selector switch B=thermostat C=flame meter D=manual ignition .....

please .

If the gas is (or was)working well, and the heating elements for mains and 12v are working well, then you eithe have a coolant leak,or it is one of the fridges which had the wrong coolant mix and will never work, or it has a blockage in the cooling coils.

The bad news is, if it has leaked or is blocked or has the incorrect coolant it means a new fridge as Thetford fridges do not have replaceable coils.

What age is the fridge?

if coil is very hot up the element side and part way along the top the coil is gubbed. Just done a N80el and a N112. Expensive to replace.

Only a gas competent fitter should remove or install gas appliances.

hi its a Thetford fridge and its a 2006 when you press the thermostat to ignite the gas .the flame meter goes to green .but like the electric its don't go cold .if this fridge as had the wrong coolant in it from new would it not be covered by the manufacture as its there fault and not mine .i have done a test by putting the fridge upside down and shook it and left it for 2 hours as the caravan as been standing for sometime .just doing the process of elimination and reading tips of the internet.come to think of it the caravan is a 2006 and the fridge still looks like new which is very strange as it don't show much wear and tear .i wonder if the first owner never took much notice of it or never new it was faulty.

hi what you said is right and i think this is happening to mine its hot from the element along the top then it goes cold .

what sort of price am i looking at to get this fixed and do you mean the coil is blocked ? thanks jeff

As the fridge is a 2006 version, no it will NOT be covered by warranty, mainly because of its age and secondly because the coolant problem did not affect fridges of that age.

Also, it is not a first owner van, it is second hand.

Having taken the fridge out and wated your time turning it upside down and leaving it for 2 hours (it rarely works, there is no need to leave it more than about 5 minutes, and if it did work, it would only be a temporary fix until whatever is blocking it , blocked it again.)

Hi I have to say we have a 2006 van with a Thetford fridge and have had nothing but poor performance from new it has been replaced once under warranty this improved but still a sub standard product in my view. I believe these fridges may be imported and badged. I believe that this item will do for Thetford what British Leyland did for Jaguar in my humble opinion expensive and unreliable kit.
