Caravan insurance

I can see this clause coming in on policies as more people stop towing and pitch their caravans on sites, as it will probably alter the risk assessment,
 
I needed to leave my van for 10 days on a CL as we had to go home and rather than tow the van 500 miles I left it on site. Emailed Caravanguard and said what I wanted to do, they asked the postcode of the CL, then said fine no extra cost.

I'd rather have that clause than one that says no towing over 100% 😱

Presumably the CL being a part of the Caravan Club showed it was registered for leisure use with the Club, and therefore exempt from Local Authority registration.

That I don't know, I just read 72hrs unattended in the policy and emailed them.

Pitchup.com website has a detailed description of what owners setting up a campsite have to do to be compliant with the Law. However what evidence Pitchup seek when new sites are placed on the site I don’t know. After all it’s not Pitchups responsibility to vet a landowners actions. Just like if you book a hotel stay you don’t know if the hotel is compliant with all aspects of the Law.

Caravanguard paid out without a quibble when my van got scraped by a motorhome on the ferry.
They are still pursuing the motorhomer that left his handbrake off and caused the accident. I await to see next year if there is a rise in premium.
 
this year we had a couple of refusals from insureance companies as my OH is over 80, Pickles was one and I think caravan guard was another.
 
If we ever get another caravan, we would like it on a seasonal site and there is the rub as it seems it can be difficult to insure and also expensive?

Given the number of caravans on seasonal sites why should they be difficult to insure? Two members of the Forum have seasonals….. BB, JC. I am sure they can point you towards a suitable insurer.

Should have clarified. Difficult to insure at a reasonable price. We have had experience of that previously in about 2006, but that may have changed?
 
Surely Caravans on seasonal pitches are at a higher risk than kept at home or secure storage sites therefore would expect higher premiums. We caravan for 10 months of the year and often on sites when few people there but have lots of seasonals. I have thought times how easy it would be to hitch one of these up and tow away with no suspicion.

Like others I used to insure with the CMHC, used them for many years. I made a few claims including a very major one. Could not fault them.

But now we are seasonal, our needs have changed and the club did not seem to be set up for this. I looked around and went to Frank Pickles. The service was very good as seem the terms and conditions. But as ever. We will not truly know unless it is tested.

This year my premium is only £208. I can only think that this is due to my no claims bonus and experience.

We are also with Frank Pickles on our caravan and we have NCD Protection and ours is £158

Ours is quiet good it got everything even electric gates with a tag system and then two barriers high electric fencing with cameras probably for the two fishing lakes on board plus caravan storage , There even cameras in the reception so they see you coming and going and you are only allowed one car at your pitch if you have two it goes in the carpark.

Ours is not to that standard. The owners are in a bungalow by the gate. There is a key operated barrier. And a car is parked in front of that over the winter. There are also cameras. The perimeter is a combination of large hedges and ditches, also a small river on one side.
