Caravan Jerking

When towing my caravan with my car the caravan sometimes start to jerk and then suddenly stops.This can be very annoying at times.The car does not be over loaded or the caravan.Has this happened to any of you and what do you think the problem is.
 
Donal, first things I would check are the vans noseweight and the cars towball limit.

Sounds like the van is trying to start a snake, and is probably due to the loading not quite right.
 
Donal - Does this happen when you pull away & stop? If so it sounds like the tow-hitch damper requires greasing as it may not be releasing or compressing freely due to lack of lubrication.
