Caravan length

What does it mean by maximum unit length?
Is it le length of the caravan or the length of both caravan and Car?

Manufacturers class lengths as, shipping, body, and internal. Very often sites and ferry companies are not clear about what they require. For sites, I have always gone by shipping length as they need to fit you on a pitch without the ‘A‘ frame overhanging.

I got caught out in our early years of caravanning - booked a pitch at CC Dulverton, quoted the 14' body length and was allocated the smallest pitch on the site with the A-frame sticking out into the site access road - a lesson learnt !
