Caravan Parks in Penrith/Cumbria Area

Hi were looking at heading to Penrith/Cumbria area for the summer was wondring if anybody knew of any good sites. Must have a playpark & kick about area, near a town or village would be good. The short list we have came up with is Lowther, waterfoot, Troutbeck Head CC, then we go round in circles. Was at Ord House Berwick Upon Tweed last year and that was great.

Hi Veronica,

We have been to troutbeck head CC site on many occasions.

It only has minimal play facilities for tiny kids and does not have a kick about area....also it is approx 8 miles from Keswick or Penrith so might not suit you.

Hello, we have stayed at Lowther. It did go downhill for a while but last year I had a walk around and it is nice. Large play area, kick about area, river, large comprehensive shop, pub, restaurant and take away. Can work out a bit pricy but I seem to recall they have family deals. Its also very handy for Penrith and Ulswater.

Have a nice time.

PS We like East Ord too.

Hi Veronica

We stayed at Wild Rose Park five years ago. Near to Appleby In Westmoreland, not at all far from Penrith or the Lakes. A great place for children. However we prefer Troutbeck Head if we stay in that area. Mainly because it is a CC site and it has terrific dog walks through the forest, plus we have no children so our needs may differ from yours.

Ord House , three years ago won the best kept toilet award from the Northumberland tourist board. A pretty site but not with the views at Spital CC site. Ord is quieter and more spacious.I'd go again.

Sorry, signed off with the wrong name (wrong forum). Wanted to mention that Lowther is only five minutes out of Penrith and seven minutes from the motorway. You do get some traffic noise depending on wind direction. There are log cabins and static caravans on the site (all private not for hire). The toilet facilities are good as is the laundry. Can recommend the lasanya.

We stayed at 'The Quiet Site' near to Ullswater last year. Very nice site with an area for the kids to let off steam. Also a bonus with this site is the wonderful on-site pub with a kids play area (table football etc.) Unfortunately it is not very close to any villages but is a great base for walking.

We've also just come back from C&CC site at Keswick. This is a very nice site in a fantastic location on the edge of Derwentwater and within 5 minutes walk of the centre of Keswick. Plenty of room for the kids to run around.

Hi Veronica.

We went for a look at sites in this area last Sunday & we ended up booking Park foot near Pooley Bridge with views of lake Ullswater. It has two play areas, both were being upgraded & should be ready for Easter weekend. The touring area is at the bottom of the park & the pitches were level. The site is approx 6 miles from junction 40 Penrith on the M6 via A66 / A592/ B5320.
