caravan recovery

I am a member of the RAC yet cannot add a caravan to the cover unless I join the caravan and camping club which I dont want to. Any advice on cover please

Thanks

If your car develops a fault and has to be relayed, the RAC should also tow your caravan away. However the greyer area is if the fault is with the caravan.

We have Green Flag recovery only cover (organised through the Caravan Club, not sure if they offer anything direct) for the caravan (and car) to suplement the AA cover that came with our Honda.

Have a look at LV who now own Brittania Rescue. Yoou may get a good price particularly if you or a family member are or ever have been a civil servant or public employee and hence can join CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association)

We have just renewed our RAC policy and i asked the same question about the caravan part of it. As been said they will recover the caravan if the car breaks down but not if its the caravan only which has broken down. So has anybody on the Forum had a breakdown on the caravan and needind recovery and if so what type of incedent was it, apart from accident that is.

Hi so im not the only one then, but when you contacted them did they mention the camping and caravan club saying that if you join you get cover! well I used a code from the cacc and guess what you dont so it seems a rip off to get you to join both. I contacted rac by e mail and got the same reply they dont do it its tuff. maybe one for practical caravan to look into on our behalf something may be done then as i cant beieve they dont cover even if you had to pay a bit extra

To me the most comprehensive cover, I know I've used it, is Mayday which is administered by Greenflag for the CC which you have to be a member of. It's not the cheapest though.

As mentioned when you select a recovery facility don't just ask if they recover caravans as many companies mean they will only recover the trailer if the tow vehicle is broken down and not the trailer if that is not roadworthy.

I have RAC Arrival via the Camping and Caravanning Club which includes caravan cover, even if it's the caravan that breaks down. You also get a discount so the RAC Arrival cover actually worked out cheaper than normal RAC cover.

If you're not getting this then you need to speak to the RACC&CC.

Hi, Being a ex RAC employee, I was a Service patrol for a good number of years, I can confirm that with normal RAC cover a breakdown on your caravan is not covered, and it cannot be added as a option. If your car breaks down whilst towing your caravan then both will be recovered if the fault cannot be fixed at the roadside or at a garage within a reasonable time at a reasonable cost.

If you take out the Arrival cover through the C&CC then any problems with your caravan e.g. Puncture , problems with external lights or accident damage will be attended, not always by a patrol, in a number of cases a garage agent will be sent especially if the caravan will need recovery, in a good number of cases this will be the same garages that Green flag use for their Caravan Club Mayday service, this can be something of a lottery as to the kind of service you receive some are very good and some are equally very bad dependant on where you are unfortunate enough to breakdown.

Hope this helps, By the way I have Mayday cover through CC and having 3 vehicles with comprehensive and extra cover at a cost of just over

thanks for all yourhelp but still not impressed with RAC when they will recover with c@cc yet wont touch you if your just a normal member
