Caravan Spiggots

Hello, I have an Elddis Crusader 2006 with original alloys on. My Alloy Wheel Centre is much bigger than my hub. Do caravans come with spiggots or do you add these on yourself? I can't see the point in having the wheels balanced if the alloy and hub aren't a snug fit. Anyone added spiggots? Thanks Niki

They don't have a raised centre and it makes refitting the wheel awkward

The wheel is centred by the tapered seating on the stud bolts

I've never heard of anyone fitting spigots

I have a U shaped tool that goes through 2 bolt holes in the rim

It is then fitted into the corresponding holes in the hub so that it holds the wheel in place for bolt insertion

Nikki I wonder if you are refering to spiggott mounted wheels.

This is merely the collar on the bolt which acts much like a washer.

As for being a snug fit these will hold the wheel in place very well. This is a very common fitting on buses and lorries. Please also note that these tyres are also balanced before fitting.

This is an answer from a motoring website as to what do spigot rings do

"Because the wheels you have bought fit many other vehicles they put plastic rings in with them to take up the gap in the centre of the wheel where it goes on the hub ".

So as there is no raised centre on caravan hubs there would be no point to fitting that type of spigot ring

Hello John, Yes that was probably me asking another forum the same question but I find this forum much more helpful. The other site I find are more interested in organising rallys but they are also helpful to me.
