Caravan storage damage

This is a warning to choose your caravan storage very carefully. As I worked on a military base that had a caravan storage compound I thought it would be a good idea to store my caravan there, very secure. Armed guards, CCTV, mobile patrols and it was free. A few months back I had a falling out with the company I worked for at the base. I made requests to remove my caravan from the base through the company, they refused. A few days later I received a call from the RAF Police to say that my caravan window had been smashed. I went over to the base the following day to check out the damage.I was asked if I had any problems on the base I said only with my employer. The Police officer said that explains a lot because it looks like the caravan has been targeted as it is the only caravan damaged and the extent of the damage is severe, not just a broken window.I have two videos on you tube take a look!!!!This was 7 weeks ago.I have made it very clear as to who might of done this but the RAF Police have done nothing, the MOD Police have done nothing, and my employer has done nothing. Since the videos where taken further damage has been done to the caravan. Inside is covered with graffiti and it stinks of urine. Entry and exit to and from the base the is covered by CCTV and is controlled with vehicle and personal security passes, yet nothing. I have since learnt that the CCTV footage has been taped over and that the MOD Police forensic team did not turn up. I am sick to my stomach at the lack of investigation and enquiries that have been carried out. With the further damage to the caravan where is the security? Now my insurance company is playing up and there is a chance they wont now pay out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Institute proceedings against the MOD through the small claims court for the damage sustained. That will wake them up as they have a degree of responsibility as they allowed you to store your caravan on their site. For further info and advice log onto http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/

Gosh Ray, I've looked at the video and that's shocking. I think it is a write off too.

Can't the civilian police get involved?

Why is the insurance company 'playing up' and why is there a possibility they won't pay out?

Out of interest, can you disclose the nature (type of business) the company you worked for is in?

Hi Lisa and Sidney, Thanks for the reply. I have had the estimate from the caravan repairers today, and the caravan is beyond economic repair- Write off!!!!!!!!!

The civilian police will not get involved because the damaged happened on MOD property. The RAF Police first dealt with the problem on site but because I am a civilian and the extent and nature of the damage, the case was then passed to the MOD Police. Who then have full power to deal with matters like this. The civilian police dont want to interfere with their cases or investigations, or as they said to me "Tread on anyones toes" I can not get a straight answer out of either the RAF or MOD police but what I have managed to find out is when the case was passed to the MOD Police the case some how was overlooked and one thing led to another.

The Insurance Company attitude is one of disbelief and are playing up on the amount of security on site,or lack of it. As far as I can find out the insurance company are pressing for more details of the security on site.

The company I work for maintains MOD property for the whole of Eastern England.

I have a meeting on Friday afternoon with the Station Commander, he has promised a full investigation. He has the power as far as I know to impose sanctions on the company, I know he has the power to throw the company not only off this site, but other sites as well. I know this is the case, as the company were almost thrown off one site for a lad swearing at a RAF Person. The RAF wont stand any nonsense. It could even be possible for the company to loose the whole contract worth some

Hi Ray - glad to hear that there might be some progress.

I suggest that you take some photo's of the damage for the station commander to look at. He will probably be surprised - this wasn't just damage, but deliberate and sustained attack on your caravan by people who were out to destroy it.

I don't know the age and value of the van - but it looked modern enough and was probably worth several thousand pounds? I know that price shouldn't enter into it - but the value can only serve to highlight the seriousness of this destruction.

As far as the insurance goes - they (presumably) knew where it was being stored and accepted the risk, so it's tough for them (as long as they were fully informed about the location, etc)

Do let us know what happens - as I said, I'm sure that people will be only too glad to help. I loathe this sort of vindictive behaviour - it's just bullying carried to an extreme and I can appreciate just how hurt you must be to be the victim. Chin up, you can be certain that there are people on your side too ;)

As they've been back to do further damage, can't you put some sort of covert camera in there and hope they come back a third time?

I just can't believe people can be so hurtful, if they want to hack you off its enough to put a dent in the side but this just beggars belief.

You have our sympathy.

Val.

Thanks for the responses once again. I still have the video clips on my camera and they WILL be coming with me tomorrow.Val the second visit was kids as the little B******S left their (TAGS)inside on a couple of the panels in heavy black marker pen. They have also Pee,d inside as it stinks to high heaven. I am hoping that the little B******S do come back as the CCTV is now right on my caravan or whats left of it.Bit late now I know. When I went to clear out the caravan I found out the sides to the awning where missing the poles and the main part of the awning where still there. There could be a good chance they will come back when they find out the awning is not complete. I believe they where disturbed as the poles were on top of the sink unit.

We received a call today from an insurance company seeking help in assessing the cost of repairing this caravan.

As my colleague had viewed the youtube video back in June he was able to inform them that the costs involved were way over the caravans value.
