Caravan survey

For this year's survey, we’d like you to tell us about the caravan(s) you’ve bought since 1 January 2017 and have used at least once. If you haven't bought a van in this time or used it yet, please come back next year!

There you go, its official. To remain a member you must buy a caravan in the next 12 months.

That might be tricky not many about-mind I reckon that in the next 12 months the bubble will burst and the staycationers will realise it can rain in the UK and it isn't always easy and clear off back to their package hols-might be some bargains around then! Anyway-have done the survey.

I find that odd, if they had said bought a NEW caravan since 2017 I could see that logic. Othwise they are comparing all ages of van. Not sure what could be gained from that.

the survey asks when the caravan was manufactured.

No doubt, but not on page 1, and if you have not purchased since 2017 you don’t get past there, unless you fib. 🥴.

At least with that info they can do meaningful breakdowns.

These surveys do serve a purpose for those with deep pockets😎
However it would be far wiser to do surveys on older caravans and highlight any common issues . Practical to me means diy. That’s what most Forumites on here do . So more older surveys and more diy and letters explaining home fixes for problems . Gas safety etc respected😉

However it does not ask the year of the caravan. Ours is the 2018 model built in Oct 2017 when we took delivery.
Yours then is a 2017 manufactured caravan surely. Trying to dig down too deeply would make the survey difficult to assess as some caravans can be waiting 12 months from manufacture to first registration depending on the model or market conditions.

Have I missed something?
It says “For this year's survey, we’d like you to tell us about the caravan(s) you’ve bought since 1 January 2017 and have used at least once.”
Surely this includes any caravan you have bought since 1.1. 2017🤔🤔🤔

I agree.

That is correct, but it is a 2018 caravan model which was totally different to the 2017 caravan as it had a different chassis, axles etc.

It doesn’t matter what date the caravan was manufactured if you read the wording. It merely says bought since 1.1.2017. It can be new or used. Ambiguous? Yes! So if you bought a 2005 used caravans last year it appears you are eligible to join the survey🤔🤔🤔🤔

That’s right, but within the depths of the survey there’s a question about manufacture date. But what relevance say a 2007 caravan has is difficult to understand. If the granularity of the questions gets too fine then the statistical confidence in the results will diminish. That’s why car surveys with a much larger response base will not “rate” inputs from certain makes as the sales or responses are too low in number. For Subaru I looked at US and Australian surveys for data.

We do surveys locally on footfall, car parking and traffic patterns. We probably spend longer discussing precisely what data we wish to capture. I think this survey is poorly worded and maybe needs a rethink or clarification.

That could make the survey very flawed as in 2017 one could have bought a 2000 caravan with many issues and put that manufacturer in a very bad light however current caravans from the same manufacturer due to design changes could be brilliant. Just saying, but pigs may also fly.
