Caravan Tyre

Hello again,

How can I tell by looking at a tyre that it is suitable for my caravan? Apparently they need to be 8 ply. Is there any code on the tyre wall?

Many thanks

Steve B

The number of plies is not really a very accurate indiaction of the suitabilty of a tyre for your caravan because an 6 ply of one size of tyre can have a higher load carrying capacity than an 8 ply of another size. The ply rating tells ones more about the tyre's durability than its load carrying capacity. It is therefore more important to use the tyre load index which is the number on the sidewall after the wheel size.

To check what load index you need, take the maximum laden weight of your caravan in kilogrammes, divide that by the number of wheels and check the result against the following tyre load index chart:

TYRE LOAD INDEX
