Try camping Haliotis - very easy to get to - used to be a municipal but has since been taken over and developed. Lovely site with good facilities - very large pitches on the new area and a supermarket just over the road.

The site is at Pontorson just south of Mont st Michel - there is a pathway leading from the site to the Mont so you can walk or cycle. The site is run by two friendly youngish (about 40's) french couples. There is no shop on site but they serve breakfast in the bar and you can order bread and croisants. As said there is a good Carrefour just over the road and the town of Pontorson is a just walk down the road where you will find a pizzaria amongs other things. As to the crossing, have you tried the special offer with Condor offered through Camping Cheques amongst others. Sunday sailings Portsmouth / Cherbourg about

I can thoroughly recommend Camp-du-Lety at Benodet. Right on the beach (clean and safe for young children). The site is spotless and the toilet/shower facilities are first class. Benodet is a beautiful area of Brittany and quite central for trips out.

The road from Roscoff to Quimper is dual carraigeway and first class. The only downside in approx. 80 miles there is only one fuel station so make sure you have plenty of fuel. Quimper to Benodet is approx 10 miles of normal road but very good for caravan towing. Our only disappointment was a visit to Brest - dirty town and a big let down.

The ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff takes about 6 hours but look upon it as part of the holiday. We travelled down the day before sailing in case there were hold-ups on the M5. We stayed overnight on the quay side at Plymouth. Basic toilet/washing facilities but at Roscoff the facilities at the port are brilliant.

Good luck and enjoy your holiday - wish I was going with you.

Hi.

Can you give us some more details about the situation at Roscoff port if you are staying overnight before the early ferry. Do we need to seek prior permissions to do this, or is it ok just to turn up and get parked up for the night on the quay?

We sailed last year from Caen and chose to stay on a site near Bayeaux and travel to the docks in the early morning, but a couple we know opted to stay over on the quayside which of course meant a little more lesiurely wake up time. So this year we are considering doing the same thing if it is possible, and or advisable.

Kind regards

James
