Carver heater - "loose" gas ignition / control switch

The ignition / gas control switch on the Fanmaster /Carver 1800SC can be lifted up out of the body of the unit. I've been told this is normal and later models are fitted with a grub screw. However, having been lifted it needs to be relocated into the unit inside. Not a difficult job , apparently. Any tips e.g. how do I take the cover off?

All Carver fronts pull off two clips at the bottom and then lift up and off, unless that is it's an old Caravelle which has two small screws holding it at floor level. This also applies if any fire front tends to jump off while on the move, so check for any if yours seems stiff to pull.

Control rods coming loose is common and indeed some were later fitted with a grub screw, however there is a quick fix.

Remove your control rod and underneath you will have the aluminium stem it connects to, pull this out as well. Now you can squeeze the tip of this rod and spread about 3mm of the 'v' cutout open a little using a vice. Squeeze a bit at a time and keep trying it in the control rod until it fits firmly.
