Has anyone stopped here?

I happened across their website whilst looking for an all year site. £19 for a weekend inc electric, awning, all the usual facilities + swimming pool and clubhouse with weekend entertainment. They even say if you book 2 weekends in a row (cost £38) you can leave your van there for the week in between for free.

Naturally I'm going to book for a weekend as its seems an absolute bargain, however the sceptic in my head keeps asking why is it so cheap? any comments?

Up until recently, my parents had a seasonal on here - been there around 10 years. The site has changed hands a number of times and the new owners are removing seasonals from the site from next February. All the more good for tourers you may thing - NOT. They are turning the site over to lodges and statics and eventually not going to have touring vans at all.

However, you asked about the site. It is a nice site, albeit I think a little cramped in places. They have spent money making new access roads this has eased entry/leaving. The fishing apparently is good (not a fisherman!). They have a bar area/conservatory area and they have live acts on at the weekends, plus karaoke etc. There is a small pool and a shop with sells necessities etc. The toilet block is heated, clean and tidy and has washing up facilities in there too.

My parents have always enjoyed the site even through the change of owners, but have said that the feel is not the same. My opinion is that the pitches are too close together, in lines but would stay there for a weekend. Not so sure about a week though. The price is favourable, but then again it's not a large site, small commercial is the phrase I would use.

Give it a try you have nothing to lose. The village of CAwood is in walking distance and Selby is nearby for shopping or the park and ride into York is just down the road. The fish and chip shop near the central car park in Selby is very good.

Best Wishes

Just got back from Cawood Park, and we had a fantastic weekend.

Spoke to the people in reception while we were there, and they have said that they are definately not removing tourers or seasonal pitches, in fact they are looking to expand and put some super pitches in over the next couple of years. The touring area by the lake is also being remodelled in the early part of next year.

This site was absolutely ideal for us. Saturday nights entertainment was excellent! We enjoyed the site do much we've already booked for a week next august

we went to cawood in july for the weekend and found it ok, like janet & jason have said some of the pitches are a little close, we had pitch 40 in the bottom corner and ahd a bit more room ! they have spent a lot of money on the club house which is very nice but does not serve meals ! we didnot tyr the pool but it looked ok, lots of people fishing, we drove to the retail outlet and got the shuttle bus in to york which is better than trying to park and you don't pay for children. will return again

We are Cawood park and we would like to tell you that we are NOT

turning the site over to statics and lodges. Our plan is to always have touring caravans on the site. We have almost completed phase 1 of our refurbishments and all the rest is subject to planning but tourer will always be welcome.

Kind regards

Angie

Hi Angie

Thanks again for a great weekend. If you've got any spare money when your refurb is completed, is there any chance that the sharp turn to the exit road could be widened a bit. Its very tight if you're trying to turn with a large caravan, or maybe Im just rubbish at towing lol

Hi Angela

If this is the case, why were the seasonals all asked to remove vans by February next year so you could revamp the lakeside pitches over to statics and/or lodges - given that you haven't got planning permission to do so yet. Why have you carved up the old touring area near the entrance barrier and put very large expensive lakeside lodges/statics on there. Your grand plans may attract more modern vans, but you won't have the guaranteed money that the old style seasonals brought in. The damage is done as those loyal seasonal owners who have gone elsewhere have already passed on their feelings to anyone who will listen to the changes that are afoot at Cawood Park.

To be honest what you do with your site is your business, and good luck to you, but treating longstanding visitors be it seasonal or touring doesn't do much for your reputation.
