My sentiments exactly, if you want the good sevice and clean well run sites you have to pay for them if you want to go cheep go to something like a cl where you may not even get a shower. You pays your money you takes your choice

Quality costs, simple

an example is Look at the outlay Simon has put into Carnon downs in the past 4 years

Agree with the general views being expressed re the high CC pricing. However, a recent stay at a North of England site really caused me some serious concerns as to their pricing policies.

Due to the distances involved when travelling back from France we stopped off for 3 days at the Chester CC site. Now, to let you understand - I have a 6 berth van (not that uncommon these days you may say) but as well as the good lady and myself - I had a 10 year old, a 16 year old and, sadly on probably her last ever family holiday before she spreads her wings - a 17 year old. As well as this, I had 'Mother' who is now a fit 70+.

Fee for 3 days ......

hi all

I agree site pricing of cc/c&cc sites is due for a overhaul the practice of charging for everything seperatly is A rip off on a club search of sites in devon I found one that charges wait for it

I agree with comments that CC fees can be expensive. I have been caravanning for 3 years with my wife and two children. I break down sites into three categories.

Frank,

With the greatest of respect I understand what you are saying as regards CC site fees and average working mans wage, but I do see that you have paid

hi steve

I dont know which sites you go on but I find small commertial sites quite reasonable in fact much cheaper than our club sites in general and the last cl we stopped at was a field at the back of a pub the only thing on site :- ONE TAP for water nothing else, this may be someones idea of heaven but its not mine not even at

Colin,

I am just basing it on my experience, and I feel strongly I should defend CL's.

In three years I would say I have been on only one below average CL site. The rest have been good to excellent. Most CL's have between quarter to an acre of lawn (i.e. not a field), good views, lawned and only 5 vans max. Yes you get a tap, waste area, and generally a toilet, but what more do you want? Generally, the owners are always happy to help.

Speaking to other caravanners over the past couple of years, a lot feel a bit let down by larger sites etc, but when you mention CL's their have this view of CL's like you said "a field at a back of a pub". In most cases this is so far from the truth. There should give it a go.

As I said, the three commercial sites I have stopped on have been expensive, lots of vans, noisy etc. Never again. Not really what caravanning is about, getting away from it all !However, I do take your point, I am sure their is are some good small commercial sites.

Getting back to original thread. If it was

We always have our main holidays early and late in the season, so the site fees are not expensive, and we also get concessionary rate for one of us anyway, with the C&CC sites. On the whole, this will be the only times we actually use the club sites. The rest of the time, and particularly this time of year, we will use CL's or CS's, the one we were at this last weekend, water tap, bin and toilet emptying point,
