Change is quietly happening

On my morning wanderings I called into a local Tesco and noticed that the large artic waiting to unload was powered by LNG. Something I hadn’t realised had been introduced. Needless to say on my way out I gave it a very wide berth🤣
I wonder if it’s LNG came from Russia as surprisingly Russian LNG isn’t sanctioned.

Last week Bath announced that its clean air zone had led to a reduction of Nitrous gases by 27% and theres no restrictions on private cars either. So restricting types of commercial vehicles plus an ever increasing number of clean cars has led to Bath air quality meeting legal standards. Nothing was said however wrt PM2.5 particulate levels. Makes you wonder if ULEZ is OTT as with more electric vehicles arriving and older vehicles being scrapped nitrous levels can only go down. PM2.5 is more difficult as it’s more than exhaust related.

LNG is no cleaner than a lot of current diesels . I thought shipping and HGV were moving away from this gas which allegedly chucks out high levels of CO2 and Methane? I am sure you can explain it please Clive? In fact is it cleaner of dirtier than North Sea natural gas?
As for PM2.5 I suspect the Bath EV scooters have helped😉. Plus the modern diesel is pretty clean what with EGRVs, DPFs, Ad blue etc.
Ulez is nothing more than a corrupt form of taxation paying for the failed TFL experiment which is now £1.6 billion in debt 🤮

Well all I can say in response is that companies like Cummins, Shell and Calor have made some poor investment decisions in their introduction if LNG for transport uses. Most sources quote a 15-20% reduction in CO2 (well to wheel) with reductions or nil emissions of other pollutants. Not seen anything wrt methane. I have absolutely no idea if British North Sea natural gas is cleaner than that from other countries. As with liquid fuels such as petrol and diesel I would expect it to be produced to meet national and international specifications irrespective of source.

There’s a touch of Deja vu. Remember Skoda, Kia Hyundai. Some of the best selling cars now. . No doubt the Chinese will also succeed beyond our expectations

Yes we had a Skoda Estelle as a second car when living in Cumbria, but the difference between that and the later Superb was chalk and cheese. We bought our first Sorento in 2005. I was off to Australia and as I got into the taxi I said to my wife "get rid of that heap of poo"... refereeing to the Discovery 2. When I arrived back some months later we needed a tow car so decided on the Sorento as in the USA it had 10 year 100k powertrain warranty. Not so here, but my reasoning was that any company that has that confidence in its product must be doing something right. And I must say we had 70k stress and fault free miles from the Sorrie. God's gift to caravaners. We are all Kia now.

I even changed my British motorcycle, an AJS 650cc, when some " irk" on a Yamaha two stroke wiped the floor with my on a traffic light sprint start.

The next few years will be very interesting for the motor industry.

That is going back in history, but I vaguely remember the smaller cc AJS motorbikes. I don't recall ever seeing a 650.

Rather than opening a new thread this article in The Guardian is interesting wrt Chinese penetration of the motor car market.

Jury is still out on MG's long term reliability but couldn't do any worst than when MG was al UK company.

Easy to source cheap parts for Chinesr brands thanks to Aliexpress.

Some owners are waiting months for spares to get their recent MG back on the road.
