I have just bought a new van and i have been told that new vans are no longer charged by the car only by hook up not a lot of use if you want to use cl's dealer suggested solar panel on roof

We were not given a manual when we bought this van will be asking for one

Anybody else got any clues?

Thanks

Geoff

geoff, the caravan battery can be charged by the car when the engine is running. The car battery feeds pin 4 of the 12S socket with the negative on on 3. On most vans there is a relay that is operated by the fridge supply on pin 6(+) and pin 7(-). The relay switches the supply on pins 4 & 3 to either provide power for the van 12v electrics when the engine isn't running or to charge the van battery when the engine is running.

Thanks John

I have looked at the Bailey service manual and it disagrees with what i have been told by Chichester Caravans so when i come back from my trip to Spain I will take the matter further

Thanks for the infomation

Glad to be of help

If you want to use the fridge on 12V on the way to Spain make sure that the centre pin on the 12S socket has been connected to earth as this is the earth return for the fridge

The +ve feed is on the red wire at pin 6

Its not unusual for salesmen to give wrong information and when its done with authority its hard to dispute.
