hi Bob.

I'd pick up the A49 and travel to Leominster, then take the A44 to Aberystwyth and on to the coast road towards Cardigan. You then turn off at New Inn to Newquay.

Although it might be a few miles longer, you'll have better progress and less traffic jams.

If you want to park in the bottom car park which is handy for the harbour, get there by 8-30 cos it get's filled PDQ. The other carpark is at the top of the town which is ok going to the beach, but after a day in the sun, the 1 in 5 hike for half a mile is blooming knackering.

The harbour is beautiful, good fishing trips there (skipper is a friend of mine) and safe bathing for all ages.

If you choose to walk at low tide over to Cai-Bach beach ( the long beach viewed from the harbour, keep an eye on the tide as if you get cut off it's a five mile hike by road back to Newquay.

The last time I was there I helped out the inshore life boat in rescueing around thirty folks trying to climb the rocks to get back on the rising tide. Their inflatable and my jet drive boat were the only one who could get close enough. Don't risk it these lot were well lucky and it took us about 2 hours to do the good deed.

Llangranog is another nice safe beach to visit and a good little pub right on the front.
