Chris Feast

Being very new to caravanning and now thinking of buying a caravan for the first time what are the essential other pices of equipment you would need to get started?

The list is endless but just to get you started, things that will stay in the van -

Battery

Spare wheel + caravan jack

Gas bottle (s)

25m mains cable

Stabiliser

Towing mirrors

Aquaroll or other fresh water container.

Waste water container.

Door step

Security device(s)

Picnic table and chairs

Fire bucket

First aid kit

Sink drainer - see excellent article in PC mag or you could end up buying a pup!

Things you can 'borrow' from home but having them in the van is better -

Crockery & glasses (preferably non-breakable)

Cutlery

Pots and pans

Low wattage kettle

Sleeping bags or duvets

No doubt other contributors will now add to this list.

Chris, I think membership of one of either the CC or C &CC ( or both) and a good recovery scheme for both the car and van such as the C&CC recovery scheme with the RAC.

Chris in addition to Zbungle's extensive list, I always take with me a Stanley knife, mallet/hammer, pliers, adjustable wrench, roll of duck tape and a pack of epoxy adhesive - which will get you out of most problems!
