Hi folks

Ok has anyone tried having a holiday in their caravan over the festive period with kids? (10 and 15)

We are thinking about going for a couple weeks, just for something completely different and extremely random

Any nice places that are open full season which have great Christmas days included or does it really wind down during this period?

I suppose we could also set up at a site and book somewhere for a nice Christmans meal...

I know, it's such a brain fart of an idea but we thought what the heck!!

We had one Xmas away and it was good, but our preference was to have Xmas at home when we all either eat in, or go out for a meal, and then we would take our grandchildren away over New Year. It gave the parents a break so they could go out, and we aranged a meal out on New Years Eve with the grandkids.

If you are thinking of eating Christmas lunch out then places are booking up early around us, and prices around us in a nice pub are £85-90 per head. This year is a novelty as two grandkids are cooking us all lunch at our house. Which still leaves me mega washing up no doubt.

We went to Bolton Abbey CMC site when our kids were younger 7 and 9 ish. Initially it was to get away from the outlaws/in-laws and all the stress of visits etc. We really enjoyed it and even had a light dusting of snow. Lots of quality family time, walks and food. Didn’t cook a Christmas dinner but had an all day buffet and went out for Boxing Day lunch as much cheaper.

Went back to normal the following year but since then choose to go away over New Year from about 27/28th till 2 Jan ready for a return to work.

We used to go away every year at Christmas. Moreton in Marsh was our favourite for Christmas as plenty shops and pubs nearby. Everyone on the site got into the spirit with decorating caravans and their pitches. On year we had a slight snow fall and it looks just like a picture out of a Charles Dickens story. Beautiful.

However we did make one mistake and left the turkey into a cool box outside with the intention of cooking a defrosted turkey in the morning before going to the pub at lunch time. On removing it the next morning we found that the turkey had frozen solid so had a very late Christmas dinner that day. LOL!

Did Carnon Downs near Truro 10 years ago. It snowed! Site was well decorated . Just us and the dogs , we enjoyed it. But it was a bit isolated and lonely. We enjoyed it.
Not sure teenagers will?
Google will give you more ideas. What do the kids like?

We went to Southcliff near Bridlington in the school holidays. The touring park was not our cup of tea as it was rammed with families with kids, but they all seemed to be enjoying it. It is open over Christmas and. does have some entertainment but exactly what I don’t know. Its main attraction is the proximity to Bridlington and the beach.
There is a Park and Ride just outside the site but you would have to check its winter hours. Sewerby Hall does all sorts of events and we had a great day there with the grandkids.

I think you should be guided by the family, and especially the teenagers. When I think back to when my own children were teens, some 25 years ago, the world they lived in is very different, No smart phones no on-line gaming, their expectations and spare time activities were so different.

We talked and played inclusive word and number games as we sat and ate around the table. None of this nose in a smart phone in a self centred social media false news smartphone universe.

I remember those days👍. The kids learnt how to fix caravan things . Current affairs and what we could do tomorrow.
Plus without i phones and pads my holidays were not interrupted by work!
