Hi there,

Anyone considering a Chrysler 300c as their next towcar? Having had one for 6 months, towing our Swift Charisma twin-axle regularly, I can thoroughly recommend it. 3 litre diesel is returning @ 32mpg solo, 25 whilst towing, and there's muscle to spare. Go for the estate version for practicality. Best looking car on the road, plus loads of kit as standard.

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To my mind, the Chrysler 300c is the most hideous thing on four wheels.

Wrong there Lutz I think they look brill!! and would love one but my wife likes the our Jeep so that's that I guess!

Sorry delete "the". Also they have a brilliant engine with oodles of torque and make a good towcar and I admire Chrysler for being different from all the other bland mobiles. Good choice Mark!

There now I feel better after that!

I concur with my friend Lutz. But I would not have been be so kind.

Beauty and the eye ..................., as the saying goes.

Remember regular eye tests are also advisable for all drivers.

Each to their own.

Hi mark I am with you , I think the 300c is a great looking machine, finest V6 diesel available and has all the toys you could want.

It is just as well we are all individual and like different things. Some may not like its looks but that is their opinion so they wont buy one.

Only thing that surprises me john is the fuel consumption , it seems almost the same as I cant get with the Grand cherokee V6 CRd which has the same engine but permanent 4 wheel drive .

Great looking machine if i were to change my 4x4 for a standard car the estate 300C would be my choice.

Out of intrest what is the kerb weight, nose weight and towing limits for the 300C.

Where I live this car (saloon) was mainly bought by 'quasi gangsters' cos' it looks like a rolls from the front!

Not suggesting you are in that category mind!!

I like it anyway.

The kerbweight is 1900 saloon and 1945 touring. Noseweight 100 and max towing limit is 2000

Just remember that the 300c's oil burner is a borrowed Mercedes lump.

Just a pity Chrysler didn't borrow a designer as well, seriously I have no doubts it is a great car for towing, but the press use of "retro looks" to describe it translate to pig ugly in most people eyes.

Its wallowy ride may suit towing, but a sprinter for our country lanes with its performance,No!

Yes but you have to admit itis a brilliant engine and reliable as well as for a sprinter on our country lanes its not that type of car so I will keep my Fiest ST for that .

lee you are correct i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee these cars. they are so sexy and tow fantastic. i would have one anyday as well as the santa fe.

Would love one jo-anne but will have to keep the Jeep longer which I really like plus its better weight wise for towing the van. Towing with the 300c would put us at 100% ratio and the loss in depreciation on the Jeep is faster than the Titanic going down!!....... Now where is that lottery ticket?

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments, good and bad! Never thought it would get 20+ replies. For those detractors / lovers of the 300c, I'd be interested to hear what towcars you have at the moment. When I was buying last summer, it was a choice between a 300c or a new Discovery, and the level of standard kit on the 300c won me over

As for its 'gangster' looks, I concur that the saloon can look like a 'mafia staff car' in the wrong hands, and the estate is far superior looking (plus there's more room for the M16 and a couple of henchmen!)

Also, if I'd had a quid for everytime I've been asked 'is that a Bentley mate?', I could have paid for the car twice over.

A bit more background .....the chassis is from the Mercedes E class, as is the splendid engine, plus the estate version is built solely in Austria, so the build quality is excellent.

Just off to order some 22" rims and spinners.....

Sorry, I'm still laughing.

If you'd said new Rolls Royce I could see that, it's equally as ugly.

My friends husband has one on a lease deal, no one would take them and it was as cheap as chips compared to a Merc.

Their vicar even thought it was a funeral car, plus a London coppers view, "if you park there sir we'll doing you for running bootleg and tax evasion".
