citroen berlingo

We are thinking of changing the car and are quite impressed with the Citroen Berlingo 2.0litre turbo desiel. We have a Bailey 500/5 (max. weight 1250kg.) Has anybody experience of towing with this vehicle and would it suite the Bailey. Any comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

According to the Citroen website (www.citroen.co.uk) the Berlingo 2.0iHDi has a kerbweight of 1311 Kg and a maximum braked trailer weight of 1100 Kg. I think you might be a tad over the limit if you tow a caravan with a maximum weight of 1250 Kg.

I concure with zbungle, however, it is illegal to exceede the car manufactures maximum permitted tow weight, and effectively having to loose 150Kg from the payload capacilty of the caravan will prove to make it unsuable, especially when you have to include Gas, spare wheel, pots pans wheel chocks, etc as part of the payload calculation. I venture to suggest its an un-workable combination.

No personal experience, but my mate swears by his 2l petrol Berlingo (and the diesel would be even better).

But he's towing a considerably lighter van than yours - I'd think long and hard before taking the plunge with a 500/5
