Citroen C4 1.6 HDI

Anyone have any advice on towing a sub 1300kg caravan with a Citroën C4 Picasso 1.6 blue HDI flair EAT 6 2017 think it’s 120bhp Is it a capable tow car

The usual guidance is 40bhp per tonne of train weight. The car is rated 2205Kg and the caravan (say) 1300Kg gives a train weight of about 3.5 tonnes which suggests a need for about 140bhp so it might be a tad underpowered.
I would also check carefully that the car is rated for towing - some C4's are not homologated for such. Find the vehicle rating plate and make sure it has two lines of numbers at the top: the lines 1 and 2 are the front and rear max axle loads respectively. If the top two lines of numbers are present then you can tow with it, and if you subtract the smaller from the larger number you will get the maximum towing weight.

The vehicle has a kerb weight of 1300kg with gross weight of 1880kg. Maximum towing capability is about 1450kg. A suitable caravan will be one weighing up to about 1200kg although that is towing at about 93%. The guideline for a novice towing is 85% of the kerb weight. However has the vehicle will probably be loaded at 1200kg it should not pose a problem if you take it easy.

Strange. You say GVW 1880, I found the PSA site which says 2205, and another (dealer) site says 1975.

I think the OP should have a look at the vehicle plate?

I wonder if this car is one of those where the manufacturer sets a higher maximum towed weight limit than the GTW minus GVW calculation. If that is the case you must still comply with the GTW which means the cars payload might have to be reduced if you are looking at caravans.

Citroen are one of the companies that have been known to do as the Prof says so do check the figures. 120 bhp is not a lot for pulling a caravan but it should manage the very light models, you do need to check the torque figure, both the maximum and at what engine speed this is produced as this is more important.
