Citroen C4 or c5 as a tow car

With gritted teeth I'm thinking of changing my Volvo XC90 for something smaller, main reasons for the change are: cost of fuel, mpg of approx 30 mpg (solo) and also I am thinking of doing my bit and getting something a little greener. I tow a Bailey Ranger 550/6 (MTLPM 1328kgs)

Since Citroen are offering me the best deals at present (even beat Volvo using the 8.5% discount for being a caravan club member), I am thinking of either

1) Citroen C4 2.0 Hdi Exclusive

2) Citroen C5 2.2 Hdi

Any comments / feedback on these cars ?

Thanks, Bill

Hi William

Are you referring to the C4 or C4 picasso/grand picasso? If Grand Picasso, we tow with one (Hdi exclusive as well)and its excellent. If you want more info (assuming it's the grand picasso) let me know

Thanks Brian,

I've test drove the C4 Grand Picasso 2.0Hdi exc with EGS twice, and on both times found that the gear change in auto was terrible and the wife and little one suffer from travel sickness which after a 20 drive in country lanes they both were white, so I am looking at the C4 hatchback

hi, I tpw a bailey padgent 5 series provance with a C5 exclusive and its a good tow car and the hydro-active suspension gives it a good advantage over other cars i have towed with we went for the 2.0Hdi(136bhp) it has a max towing limit of 1700Kgs but as you will know thats not the what most people go off but its kerb weight is 1573Kgs giving you a good 85% match.

The thing with citroen though is they depreciate quickly but on the up side there are a quality ride.

Hi William, that's a shame as its a great car. I know what you mean about the suspension and gearchange. I drive an Impreza so going from that to the Picasso is a major difference, but its a great way to transport 3 kids around safely and in comfort. The gear change does take some getting used to and Andy and Jue are spot on about the self-levelling suspension, its a really stable ride when towing. Good luck in whatever you buy.
