I used to have a 2002 (51 plate) C5 Exclusive 2.2 estate which I put over 90,000 miles on many towing a caravan.

Absolutely first class tow car especially the self levelling suspension and the switch in the boot for altering the height of the suspension. Really safe stable drive IMHO.

Some negative points though. Expensive servicing and repairs at main Citroen dealerships. Mine had an emissions filter which I was quoted as

I have used a C5 for almost four years - although mine is the 2ltr estate. It's a fine tow car although when the caravan is attached fuel consumption drops from 45mpg down to 29. Servicing is easy DIY but agree with others when they say that front tyres don't last long - around 20K per pair. My previous 2.1 Xantia's front tyres easily lasted 35K. If you're going to tow a caravan you'll need a 12S socket. Take two 2.5mm cables directly from the battery and into a fuse holder, then down the back of the engine and under the car, enclosing the cables within the fuel pipe conduit. Bring them up over the fuel tank, through the large plastic access plug and then into the boot to a Smartcom relay. That saves messing about making holes in the bulkhead and lifting carpets.
