Citroen C5

Hi All

I'm thinking about buying a Citroen C5 Estate, just over a year old so it is the new shape. Does anyone have any comments, good or bad as to its suitability as a towcar and as a car generally.

I have the 1st of the new estates on a 58 plate 2.0 HDI vtr+, I believe people swear by them as towcars but in 42,000 miles I have had 3 dual mass flywheels and clutches [ only towed caravan 3 times on 1st clutch] had numerous ECU's one taking 2 months before a new car was RAIDED. Citreon towbar wiring confused ecu's till removed, front passenger window does not go up and down. It is not as advertised German bur built in France !! On the plus side it did tow the van well, but Citreon garage receptionist did tell me " sir look on the plus side it will never be as high a milage as you would expect because we will have it as often as you!!"

There are far better cars out there eg Skoda diesels that are equally as good a tow car, ps on the road price over 21 k now at 19 months garage offered

Hi Ian, sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your C5, you must have been very unlucky with this car, I am on my 4th C5 estate, I also have the new model on a 58 plate, I have covered 43700 miles and I also tow with it, it has been very reliable and tows very well.

The previous 3 C5's were company cars which I also towed with, these were relaced every 30 months with an average mileage of between 125000 to 132000 and I never has one single problem with any of them, they were on the original clutches when they were replaced.

My new shape C5 is coming up to two years old .I realy hope that its not temting fate by saying that I havent had one single problem with it.I understand about dual mass fly wheels and always drive with this in mind .In that I never slip the clutch and never keep the clutch pedal down longer than is needed I also dont try to reverse with the caravan hitched up.
