hubby said it got a good review. We already have a TD4 but we've been invited to the new freelander launch evening at our local dealers next week. We'll probably be very tempted ;-)

Fifth gear last night gave it a good review apart from one thing - the price.

Base model starting 21k up to 32k for top spec model.

Thats several thousand more than its opposition so I would expect they will have to drop the price to shift them.

I could get a BMW approved X5 18 months old with 17k on the clock for 32K.

I know which I'd prefer.

Even tho' I am very much into LR products - I was interested in how well the Hyundai scored. Particularly as it had seven seats which as Ricky so ably points out will endear this car in particular to those Mums who take kids to school.

Car sharing rota's are one way of reducing congestion you see.

And what about that Toyota Rav4 getting a three star (THREE STARs out of a maximum of 4!) pedestrian safety rating - that is as good as the Honda CRV which also scores three stars (THREE STARS out of a maximum of 4!) Compared to some big saloons this is a VAST improvement.

For example the Jaguar X type only scores just one star. Very disappointing for Jaguar drivers. I suggest they should look at their conscience and consider a change of car.

Mind you the BMW 3 series fairs no better. Apparently it is because some cars with low bonnets flick up the crash test dummy which then slams its head on the bulkhead just in front of the windscreen. More likely to be fatal apparently than the taller vehicle that scoops up the crash test dummy in a different way. Neither is to be recommended but the results are interesting I am sure all will agree.

Certainly the depreciation on the Santa Fe is a problem - unless you buy one about 18 months old - It would still have over 3 years of an excellent manufacturers warranty and as the article says, the dealers are gaining a very good reputation for customer service.

Certainly the new model is an improvement over the old one which looked as tho' it had been in an accident just standing on the forecourt.

So like all things the 4x4 situation in suburbia is not as bad as the doom and gloom numpties would have us think. If the only 4x4's in urban areas were the likes of Merc Unimogs or Taz's than I could sort of agree with idea that perhaps these two are not the best vehicles for towns.

But a saloon sized vehicle with AWD or 4x4 is really not going to clog up any street any more than a Mondeo, a Voyager or even a Jag!

And based upon the NCAP data - far from being "Pedestrian killers" as the Anti's like to make out - the reality is very very different.

But I am still mortified that people will think less of me because I do not drive a Jag! If only I could engineer that sort after Arthur Daly persona.

Do you guys out there think there is any hope for my image????

LMAO!!!
