Well done Lutz, you can be very proud of your country's achievements this afternoon. As a Welshman, I very much wanted England to win, but knew they had no chance because....it was Germany. The psychological hold the German team have over England is immense and will be very difficult to break. My neighbour was very funny. When the final whistle went, he stormed out of his house and tore the flags from his car, hurling them in to the boot.

I expect he'll get them out again in 4 years. Best wishes, Butler

Thanks, Butler, but to be honest, my sentiments are torn between the two countries as I spent so many years in the UK before returning to Germany and I felt equally at home in England when I lived there as I do back here now. Looking at it another way, I can't loose whichever country wins. Regardless of my own situation, a football game between England and Germany is always something special.

I don't like to use the word proud for an achievement to which I didn't contribute anything myself.

Who knows what the outcome would have been if the referee had done his job properly and given England that second goal?

hello,

as an englishman saddened by the defeat in the world cup one has to be realistic about the state of english football at the moment while our team has some very good players they don't seem to gel as a team unlike Germany who have the odd brilliant player but as a team work together like a well oiled BMW.

yes if the 2nd goal had been given by the allmost blind referee the outcome would probably have been different if only by the scoreline of 4-2 "I jest" anyone who knows anything about football will have understood that any team plays differently with a a goal in deficit to one that is level.

when in deficit players are drawn from the defence into attack positions even the defenders move forwards and in so doing leave gaps open at the back with a risk of conceeding more goals this is what happend, and also what happened in the 1966 final after the goal that wasn't left the german team with no option but to move up and therefore left room for hursts billiant last goal.

had the score been 2-2 instead of 2-1 more players would have stayed back and further german goals would have been more difficult to score. having said that my first point is important in so much as no matter how much one wishes to support ones own team on the day we were beat by a better team that played better football. 2 draws and a 1-0 win with only 2 goals scored in the first group are just not goodenough to win the world cup anymore.

I hope Germany go on to win it as then at least there is the consolation knowing that the team that sent us home also beat all the rest.

As I said in other posts I was hoping that we got knocked out by Slovenia to save the humiliation in the knockout stages. This didn't happen and as I predicted we did get humiliated although the result might have been different if it wasn't for the 'no goal'. The fact of the matter is that even if the goal was allowed and we won we still haven't got a world class team. Yes, world class players but not a team because they all play as individuals.

What really riles me is not the fact we lost but how we lost, the same as Maradonna's 'hand of God goal', by cheating.

What even riles me more is how individuals like Blatter of FIFA and Platini of EUFA have so much power in running the world game. Why are they so insistent and afraid of using technology like other sports. Is it because the incentives (backhanders) aren't good enough?

Why should teams who play in the qualifying stages or the finalists who have spent four years building up and training for the event be denied due to human failings?

It's totally wrong and there must be some way of removing dictators like Blatter and Platini.

I think we're going to hear more about what really happened to the England team over the next week or so. I have heard unsubstantiated rumours regarding Ferdinand's crocked foot and the relationship between Gerrard and Terry. I don't suppose I can say what I've heard can I? Butler

Why not?

There is obviously something amiss within the England squad, true they were beaten by a better team but Germany also revealed defensive frailties that should have been exploited by a team of England's (supposed) stature.

It would be interesting to see if these rumours are borne out.

Fair enough Parksy. Well it has been said that Ferdinand crocked his foot after falling down the stairs after a night on the lash just before flying to South Africa, but he went anyway. Secondly, the team has divided in to two camps. It seems that some cannot forgive Terry for having an affair with Wayne Bridge's girlfriend. It is alleged that Terry and Gerrard have had to be pulled apart on more than one occasion. It seems as though Gerrard himself is not blameless, having had a relationship with a teenager back in Liverpool. Now, with all that and more, (if it is true) is it any wonder that their performance was so hapless? Butler

Lutz, you needn't be so stoical now! The German performance this afternoon was awesome. They really did make the Argentine side look very ordinary. A colleague of mine put a large bet on Germany at 22/1. Wish I had put a tenner each way myself. Best of luck, Butler

Thanks, Butler, the 4:0 really knocked me over. I'm watching the Paraguay vs. Spain game at the moment to see who's next in line.

I think if Spain win they'l have been lucky.Really David Villa is the best hope.Perhaps if Thomas Muller had played instead of being yellow carded it would or may have been different for Germany. But undeniable what a squad, young,no beef with each other, very methodic, typically German, and a pleasure to watch, unlike our f...ing crap. One amazing country.
