Converting Honda CRV electrics to 13 pin - help!

After reading the PC article and various others about converting from twin to 13 pin electric, I have tried this afternoon to convert our Honda CRV %& plate - new shape etc.

The bolts holding the sockets on were very corroded so have ended up butchering them a bit drilling the bolts out. However all is now off and I now have 2 sets of wires however on the existing 12N loom there is an additional green component looks like a switch or a relay with several wires going to it. Its about the size of an sd memory card but twice as thick. It has a little micro switch on it but it is housed in black plastic and not obvious how it would have been switched?

I have no idea what to do with it - it won't fit in the 13 pin socket - anyone any ideas before I hand the half finished job over to some professionals?

Thanks

Mat

Must learn that you don't need to press shift when you type numbers - it's a 57 plate not a %&plate.

Anyway thanks Eddie - I'm not sure it is a sounder - it was actually inside the exterior socket under the car - I never heard it buzzing from in the car. Having had a further play the socket that I took off actually was designed to have a slot down the side between the casing and the central bit with the terminals for this component to fit. I am wandering if there is a special honda socket needed?

I still think that it has something to do with the warning for your indicators/lights. If you don't have the buzzer system, then you must have some indication on the dash in the event of a bulb failure, and I would imagine that this little gadget has something to do with that.

It's the first time I've ever heard of something like this being inside the actual socket casing - hope someone comes to your rescue soon.

Hi I know you said that it looks like a relay but in the last post you said it was part of the exterior socket. could it be the "cut off" for your fog lights on your car to stop the glare from the caravan? it would disengage the circuit when you plug in the caravan plug.

Thanks Derek

That sounds very likely - it connects to the blue wire which I have just checked and it is the fog light. and it looks like it was operated when the plug was engaged.

So the 13 pin socket I have is not designed to house this little switch like the old one was. Presumably Honda's 13 pin one is????

Is this a honda specific gismo or will there be generic sockets on the market to house it?

Thanks all

Mat

Mat try towsure, thats where I bought my 7 pin socket with the cut off for a scenic, they may have a generic one for a 13 pin socket now.

If i remember right........ the micro switch is activated when the 12n plug is fitted into the socket.....

Don't know how you will get round this......

Further digging / googling says that Sargent's stock a 13 pin socket which has a housing for this switch - its not in there on line catalogue though.

I was wandering whether the new 13 pin system had any in built cleverness that didn't require this switch?

Just thought I would update this to put it to bed and hopefully assist others in future if they come up against this.

It is now sorted. I have had a 13 pin socket with an integral fog cut out switch fitted by a towbar specialist -
