Cris number

Todays silly question, when you buy a used van is it necessary to register the cris no. If it is who do you register with and how much does it cost?

Sprocket thanks for info, that site mentions a CVR2 form to register change of ownership. We didn't receive one of them is it worth worrying about, bearing in mind we bought an old van, and when we insured the insurer's insisted on having the CRIS number,

so i would assume that they check.
