Damp Lunar and indifferent Campbells dealer

Just noticed that I posted this in the wrong forum, by wanted to get this off my chest.

We bought our Lunar Lexon EB caravan new in 2003. Since then we have endured a leaking rooflight and damp through the lounge window, bathroom window and rear awning channel. On picking our caravan up from its annual service in April we were told that damp had re-appeared in 2 of the areas, despite one of them only having been repaired by Campbells August 2007. The other by them in 2005. The dealer's response was to provide us with a quotation for replacement of the window seals. Despite phoning and writing to the dealer and to Lunar we have had no response to our letters holding them responsible and have now arranged for an independent repairer to complete repairs.

I do not accept that damp in a caravan should need to be repaired twice in its first 5 years, leaving us to foot the bill second time around.

Never again would we purchase a caravan without a 6 year water ingress warranty, and we would certaunly not purchase from Campbells. Buyers beware.

Roy - I think I would seek legal advice here - surely you have a case against them in the small claims court - in my opinion their work was not up to standard expected and not fit for the purpose. Unfortunately your contract is with the supplier and not the manufacturer. Try writing to them stating that you are seeking legal advice and that they could be liable for the full reimbursment of your money with interest and possible court costs should you win. Send a copy of this letter to the manufacturer for information as they may put pressure on the supplier as they could also be hurt regarding their reputation. This would give them bad publicity locally and whereby it takes years to build a good reputation it could be ruined within five minutes. They may move rather than have bad press publicity. I don't think I would engage another reparer just yet but obtain an independant report from a caravan surveyor. Good luck in your quest. Keep the forum informed of the outcome.

I have no experience of campbells but Lunar are well known for making damp vans .The leaking lunar reputation is still alive and causing problems .

A caravan shoud not need damp repairs in its first 3 years ,so this is obviously a design or workmanship probem.

When we had a lunar they never replied to any letters i sent .

Best thing i did was trading it in for a Bailey with a 5 year damp warantee ,they also reply to letters or Emails and are very helpfull if you telephone them Coljac
