Data use for watching streaming?

Does anyone know approximately how much data would be used per month streaming TV?

I've seen data sim only deals costing £9 for 110 Gb per month and I guess we would stream on average about 20 hours per month?

Or would I be better with unlimited data to avoid running up costs if I went over the limit?

Streaming TV uses varying amounts of data depending on the quality, with standard definition (SD) using about 1-2 GB per hour, high definition (HD) using 3-4 GB per hour, and ultra HD (4K) using up to 7-10 GB per hour.

I moved to IDmobile a year ago which is a Three “ budget” brand. Good website, easy accounts to view. No problems whatsoever.

PS and it’s a rolling 1 month contract too.

I have 50gb data allowance which has always been enough for up to a weeks TV per month when away plus general use when out of wifi range the rest of the month ........ except for one occasion. At one site I stayed at the mobile signal was very strong which caused netflix and BBC iPlayer to switch to HD automatically. Instead of using 3-4 gb on the first night we used 12!

Look at Smarty. Works on 3. A very simple App. You can have a minimal deal then just stop and start more data as required.

Just in the process of evaluting Smarty as I may switch from 1Pmobile. 1P have a good service identical to EE but their prices are not competitive any more. Coverage differs and the implementation of Wifi calling which is very important to us is different and I've had to find a workaround.

One thing to watch out for in the T&Cs is what is the fair useage policy and do they throttle data speeds if you use too much. Neither an issue for me.

Aren’t scancom just data providers? Buckman uses his phone for calls and messaging too.

Scancom work with all 4 UK networks, O2, EE, Vodafone and Three - I've recently bought a Scancom multi-network SIM, which uses the best signal of the four, to feed my new MIFI unit in the caravan - haven't tried it yet though.

Yes but if Buckman wants to use his mobile phone outside of home he needs to make calls, messages etc. So does Scancom not have limitations?

I appreciate that and Gumpy has lost sight of Buckmans need for his mobile. That’s why IDmobile and Smarty were put forward as possible options.

It's horses for courses, until recently I had two Sims in my phone one for calling and one for data as it was cheaper to use a Scancom Sim in my second slot than pay Smarty for the same amount of data. Smarty had a spring offer so I changed tariff and now get 50gb and calls +Txt for £7.20, so it's cheaper to use them for the next 13 months.
