Hi, as a new caravanner I have an old abbey which I am in the process of 'doing up'. After replacing all the lights etc. I need some advice on what to recover the bathroom walls with as it has huge green roses on it - yuk! Any advice on either paint or paper please.

Alice, I am watching this post because I have the same query. We are doing up an ABI Monza 77/78. Its not too bad, but similar to yours our toilet walls have brown roses on! I thought of using fablon, or just painting over it. I would be interested to see if anyone else has re-decorated and what they have used. Have you done the other interior walls? Ours are cream and textured plastic stuff and some has discoloured. I wonder if ordinary paint is suitable?

Would ordinary paint be suitable for your cream coloured plastic walls, almost certainly not.

The plastic is probably a GRP moulding with a cream coloured Gel coat layer, and needs a specialist GRP paint. There is no reason why you shouldn't do the painting, but these will be solvent based paints or two pack paints, and it's recommended that you wear a mask to protect yourself.

A few steps:

1. Make sure the plastic surface is clean and dry, you may want to use a product like "NWE Gelcoat cleaner" or "NWE Super Cleaner" - boat shops sell this stuff - around

Looks like there is a few of us interested in this one. My 'van is an '88 and while the wall covering isn't the worst i have seen i wouldn't mind something different.

Is there anyone out there who can help us?
