I love my dogs Helen but letting them in the bed!! Breaks every sensible rule in the book.

Both our dogs have their own beds - I don't sleep in theirs - they don't sleep in mine.

Our dogs take it in turn (we never trained them to do this - they just do it) to sleep at the top of the stairs looking down. They only do this once all the family is home and in bed.

Once they both growled and shot downstairs and I got up to see a "hoody" walking down our drive. In my view dogs are far more than pets - they a valuable "burgler alarm" as well as family members.

Give them a fuss, treat them well - but sleep with them!!!

Eeyuckk!!

In response to peter's comment - our dog is part of the family...our dog comes everywhere with us and wouldnt dream of leaving her in kennels.

For carl's problem - the small cage is a good idea,..making it a nice little den with blankets and stuff could be quite good for his terrier and could solve the bed problem.

As for pets in caravans, our van is thoroughly cleaned after each trip out,....all traces of "dog" removed and we have those "mobile fan" air fresheners in the van so you wouldnt know a dog had been in there...im a sucker for a spotless house and my van is no different.

If dogs were meant to go caravaning they would be born with towing hitches instead of tails..they arnt so they shouldnt go vanning

(John M was last seen running that way⇨ and taking his coat with him)
Camels go caravanning so why not dogs, and camels haven't got a tow hitches attached to their ars*s. :O)

We have 20 month old Laby and he sleeps in a pen at home and when and if we take him with us. When its really cold he as a light weight canvas pen that sits on the rear bed/dinette. He as escaped once or twice and wakeing up with a pair of hairy satsumas in your face is not ideal. So get apen and put your pooch in it. Bazz.

Theres no way I could put up with a large dog like a GSD or Labrador on the bed but ours are small dogs, Miniature Schnauzers. We dont even know they are there with the exception I sometimes touch one of them in the night and think Her Ladyship as forgotten to shave under her arms :O) Another plus regarding Schnauzers is we dont get dog hairs all over the place, they don't moult. Again unlike large dogs who are let off their leads to run everywhere our dogs are ALWAYS on a lead. They hate water or mud so basically they don't get dirty like gundogs etc. While at Black Knowl site we saw some people come back from a walk with 2 spaniels who were caked in mud. The owners held them by their collars while holding them under the waste water taps and they were soaked. If I had to put up with that I simply wouldn't have dogs. I can't even get ours to go out for a pee if its raining and if they see me getting the hose to water the garden they run in the house - hehheh!

Sarah - no offence intended at all but quite frankly I don't fancy 5* hotel beds very much because other people have slept in them -my problem!!!

I wasn't referring to on site Sarah. I meant off site in woods, fields etc.

We wake up every morning with our 4 westies in bed with us. They used to start the previous night on the floor on their duvets, but we gave up on that because as soon as we were asleep they join us. So they start the now start the night on the bed. we dont mind its big enough for all of us. sometimes they jump up with our son on the lower bunk, thank goodness they cant climb the ladder to join our daughter on the upper bunk

I know your reply was to Trip but I will answer it also Colin(Lincs) to help you understand some of us doggy people ;O) hehheh!.

We have 3 small dogs on our caravan bed - the 3 together wouldnt be as big as a Clumber Spaniel.

Living in a kennel? - I wouldn't know Colin, not having lived in one, because our dogs dont have them. If you can enlighten me to what kennel conditions are like I will try my best to compare it.

What's what a dog last licked got to do with sleeping on a bed?

I personally don't do this at home, as I posted above, they sleep in a pen.

I hope you find the above information of some use and any more questions you have I will endeavour to answer them ;O)

Can I now ask you a question Colin, do you or have you had children (I would wager no). If so who changed their nappies/diapers? Not you I suspect with your queasy stomach lmaaoooo.

Lord B! How can you compare coping with dogs and then mention babies and children in the same sentence. Children may get messy but they are no trouble to clean up - just one thing - can't stand them vomiting in my bed. But sometimes it's an unfortunate fact of life!

We only started caravanning so we could take the dog with his passport, hes german wirehaired pointer and allways sleeps on the bed at home which is okay as we have a super king size bed, but when we went away with the fixed bed i kept getting pushed out!! so we have switched to a van with two fixed singles and i put his own thick foam bed between and now he sleeps on that. I allways keep hin on a lead at all times when away and wish other owners would observe the site rules and do the same as he has twice been badly attacked by loose dogs. as two the van smelling - the answer is simple keep both dog and van clean, awanning are great for feeding and drying off wet dogs.
