Doggy Passports

We might be looking to take our two Labradors aged 11 and 3 with us on european hols.

Our local vet want's a fortune to process them for a doggy passport.

He also won't say just what is involved for the fee.

I'd appreciate advice and info of what is done and the costs.

steve,I've done this, mate, and used a Leominster vet. In fact I still do, and whilst I thought the charges were rather high at first, when it was all explained to me, they're actually quite reasonable. I use the vet practice whose name used to be the same as the road in which they're located, but are now called after a month! That shouldn't be difficult for you to work out.

we have considered going to France with our GSD but havent plucked up the courage. it looks quite complicated - but I suppose once you've done it once - europe is your oyster!

they are a company which help you out with contacts etc...not sure how much it costs, but the information on the site is quite handy.

If you want to take the dog away this summer then you will have to act fast. After the initial injection you have to wait 28 days before blood is taken, then you will have to wait 6 months from then befor you get your passport issued.

All went well for us and got the passport in time for our fist trip with the dog last year, until we went to come back from Calais. they checked the passport and said it wasnt stamped by the vet, all filled out but it didnt have the vets stamp on it.

Any way it took over 2 hous and alot of phone calls from the port until the vet faxed the info to defra in uk and they had to fax it through to the port, very stressfull for us thinking we might have to leave the dog behind (which would not have been an option).

we got back ok and give the vet what for.

the booster needs doing anually so we made sure that this year all was well on the passport so when we travel it should be ok!!

done between Nov and March, to ensure that we could return in September. Apparently, you can take the dog out at any time, but you cannot return until six months after the last blood test. After that, you must have another rabies injection before the passport expires ie,within two years. This will cost
