The best way for a dog to have a sore throat is leave him in the kennels for a weekend. We did that recently, our dog barked for two solid days, he had just a squeak when he came home!!! LOL

we had the same problems the other week at clumber park. people cutting through our pitch becuase its a quicker way to the car park. craig shouts " walk accross my pitch why dont you ". we found adults were worse than kids for this aswell. some adults came accross with there dogs aswell. so storm would bark shes tied up with a wind break around her eating her bone.
my other hate is when parents arrive and just open the car for the kids and they just run off wild wherre ever or the give them there bike and there gone for about 3 days but its there kids cutting accross your pitch and you can here them screaming from the play area.
i supervise my youngest as you should at any play area.
i might moan but they just annoy me. ok rant over lol.

So far this thread has been both constructive and hopefully educational to dog owners,parents and people in general. However it is as ever the few that spoil it for the majority.
Dogs do have various barks, how else would they communicate effectively with us dumb two leggers (that's how they view us).
My choc lab wanted to go out this morning. He doesn't understand that I'm fresh out of hospital yesterday and plastered upto my armpit from my wrist following a fairly big operation. So he starts by licking my right hand to wake me, then a wisper of a woof, waits 5 mins then a bit louder. After that a couple of barks to say "c'mon I'm crossing my paws heere!). So I drag my butt out of bed and walk the mutt.
The rest of the morning he'll show us affection, curl up and snooze until lunchtime when another costitutional is on the menu.
That is unless an unwanted visitor comes. Then he'll be on guard and pounce if we give him the code word. i don't think any burglar would fancy a 40Kg lab throwing himself at him and intending to hold him at bay until help arrives. That is what a security trained lab can do.
Other wise his sport of the day is giving the young nephews free donkey rides. Soft as pudd is Mr ed and just loves to be with us.
We spoil him and put his well being before us when we go out, by parking under shady trees, leaving sunroof, windows and boot glass open. Choose days out where he is welcome etc.
Dogs trained with trained owners are not noticed because they never make a pest of themselves.

It's not OK to allow a dog to bark throughout the day on a site. If the same situation occurred at home then the owners would be reported to local Environmental Health office to deal with. Studies have shown that dog barking is one of the most annoying, intrusive Environmental Health problems. Owners have a responsibility to ensure that their dog behaves.
It will be the first outing for us this coming Thursday with the dog. After reading the comments here I am now afraid to take him. He is a seven year old Saluki crossed with goodness knows what. He is an ex rescue dog which was dumped in a bag when he was 12 months old. He was crazy when we first had him and could not be left off the lead but he has now quietened down considerably. His pet hates are squirrells, rabbits, cats and post men (hates their bag). He very rarely barks but when he is off the lead and something catches his eye he is like a whippet regarding speed but has very little stamina over a long distance. His only annoyance is when he has a ball he wants to play all day and me being a young upward progressing retired person (not yet OAP) I do not have the time all day to play.

people walking through pitches is just lazyness you see the same thing in car parks every body wants to park by the door ,i have even seen people driving onto the kerb by a post box wind the window down and post there letters , thats probabley why we are the fattest nation in Europe

I'm intrigued by your post. Did you train your dog as a security dog yourself, or did you get someone else to do it? I know labs are near the top of the list when it comes to biting but they're not known as a guarding breed.
Or is he naturally a dog with plenty of drive?
I'd be really really interested to hear more.

To see or hear dogs running around a site enjoying themselves is a lovely sight, as is seeing children doing the same.
No one would/should complain about that. The gripe on this thread is about dogs who bark continually for no reason - a comletely different, and wildly annoying matter!

The first few times its like the krypton factor putting it together, but the windbreak to us is money well spent, at full stretch it comes away from the van 15' X 20' long & i can quite easily make it come out just 10' from the van if the pitch is on the small size, every body who has seen it is impressed, our dogs are not used to being fastened up to a stake in the ground & this lets them safely move about within the boundary of the windbreak....

If a dog barked continually on a CC site surely the warden can have a word with its owners. We have a dog and if we ever leave her in the caravan I leave a mobile number in the window and also our number with neighbouring caravanners just in case she started to bark.I would hate my dog to spoil the enjoyment of others.
Hi we have had same problems with dogs barking all day.
owner was sat outside of van dog next to them just barking they made no effort to stop it.
we have 2 dogs that we fasten up outside van but never bark unless yes you've got it someone cuts across our pitch. there is always one of us sat with our dogs.

I have found that in cases of dogs continually barking,a high powered jet water pistol comes in extremely handy.
If its tied up out side,every time it barks,squirt the dog on the hind quarters.It soon learns by association and curbs the habit cos thats all it is,attention seeking.
Not many dogs like water even more so under slightly high pressure aim at them

Lady C, I strongly advise against that for numerous reasons, not least if a person is so ignorant to let a dog's bark go unchecked, someone actually squirting water at it, NOOOOOOO, not a good idea. Fisticuffs springs to mind....

Good wind up. I had a good laugh on one site where the owner of two dogs allowed his dogs to run round the CL at will.
I wouldn't mind if it didn't come over to bother us some 100 yards away, but one of them did.
Now my main concern is the dog cocking his leg over my water barrel, or being aggressive, so i always tend to get tense up, not being sure what if any action to take.
I had no need to do anything on this occasion, as the dumb dog walked under my barbi while i was cooking, stupid mutt burnt the hair on his back and ran back to his considerate owner.
