It's now 8 months since I had my new caravan with the Hartal door problem. My Bailey dealer sorted it out permanently even though I had done a "fix" myself.

Hartal need to stand up and be counted. There is clearly something wrong with their product. Armed with this knowledge why aren't the caravan manufacturers giving Hartal stick??

Cheers

Hi Tash

Why can't Hartal courier the new lock to you for fitting by White Arches? 24 hour turn round ??

Dad in law lost one his Truma driving cogs last year. Truma shipped a new cog and circlip to us at Ullapool arriving next day! Excellent service.

What a shame a small item like a door lock can spoil the pleasure of your new toy.

Come on Hartal , get him a new lock asap!!!

Cheers

Alan

Hi Alan

Do you think that Riverside Caravans of Soney Stratford ,or their parent company White Arches caravans of Rushden are responsable for the sale of the faulty door lock ?Is this covered by the sale of goods Act?

regards

Tash

Hello kath

Sorry I have not been able to reply as i have been busy.

The dealer told me that the seal was a 'white one', whilst he said that this was a known problem mine was the first in his experience

I dont want to drop the dealer in it so I shall decline to name them, after all I have to use them for the next six years

Very simply your contract to purchase was with Riverside. It is they who must fix things for you. My real point , as on other posts, is that if you can get the manufacturer of the part involved it can accelerate the whole repair process where things are not going well as in your case.

Yes the Sale of goods act 1979 (as amended) does apply here. Good luck and keep the pressure on them.

Cheers

Thanks for the good advise. As of now the situation is still unresolved but I am more a little more confident after an email i recived last night from Swift. I will let you know the outcome on the forum. 20 days ago when the lock failed still no word from the dealer as to when the new lock will arive....

Hay fancy a sweap...how many days will it take for the dealer to put things right...

Thanks for the feedback. It appears that it is our Quality seal (a small sticker) that we put on when a van is checked off and ready to go to dealers.

I am sending a bulletin to dealers to tell them to remove it and not put the key through it.

Regards

Kath

Its not just swift vans that have this faulty door lock, i have never had any problems with the 5 coachman vans i have owned untill i got this one a 2007 vip 530/4 fitted with the hartal door lock, the lock has allready failled twice once repaired by the dealer and the second time by me, unfortunately it has now gone again so it is becoming a serious problem and one which hartal need to address very quickly before it gets out of hand.

on one occasion we too had to access the van through the under bed locker door in order to use it on site, its not an easy way of getting in i can tell you.

HARTEL HIGH SECURITY DOOR LOCK. Thats what they call it! But what is the true value of the lock if when it failes? You gain entry through a bed locker with a not so high security lock on it. What then is the point of the lock if you can just go round it?

Your thoughts please

The Hartel high security lock fitted to your new Baily caravan. You said it was easy to remove the red and green screw covers with a small screwdriver or a sanley knife blade four screws and its done.

When you fitted the new one did you put a small dab of glue on the screw covers. to make it even higher security ? Also with respect you forgot to post your address so all the tea leaves in your area can find your caravan.

Tash
Why wouldyou want to glue themin if you are in the van via a window it opens anyway without a key.

Hi Everyone

I have spoken to our supplier to provide you all with an explanation of the fault.

From the findings out in the field, the lock supplier has confirmed that there are a small number of inner (grey) locks fitted to some Hartal doors that have been produced over normal production tolerances which can result in the lock handle jamming within the housing.

The number of locks affected is very small and unfortunately untraceable. As such any queries regarding sticking locks should be directed to the selling dealer or to the UK agent for the door manufacturer (rtoon@miriad-products.com), who can give advice on the problem and help with the replacement of the parts affected. Some customers who have already had this issue have commented that they would be happy to replace the part themselves (rather than take the caravan back to the dealer); this is an easy repair and if this is your preferred method to resolve the issue quickly then replacement parts can be sent asap.

I have had feedback from some of our customers who have confirmed that they have received a good service from the supplier.

Regards

Kath

The reason i suggested you superglue the covers in is that if it is that easy for you to remove the lock . it would be just as easy for a tealeaf. Now that the instructions for doing so on line. I ment no offence.

To all

As it was me that started this topic I think it only fair that I put the record streight.

From the posts I can clearly see that the ownership of responsability for the fault lies with Hartal's manufacturer and NOT as i origionaly thought with Swift.

As for the lady with the lamp Kath at Swift thank you for your shining example of customer care.

That's the whole point Tash, there is no point?!

It don't matter how good or bad the door lock is, it's only as strong as what it's locking, that's 0.00 ****** all millimetres of aluminium and plastic windows!!!!!!
