Hi all

I know i have seen it somewhere but i cant find it.

I have a 2009 Lunar Delta which has a Hartal door lock. Its been ok till recently now its playing up and i remember that there is a way of sorting it out.I have taken it off and sprayed it with PTFE spray and its a bit better. Any idea where i can find the info ?

Cheers

Hi Graham,

There is a coincidence, I too have a 2009 Lunar Delta and our door lock is also sticking - sometimes have to hold door shut and use the key to move the latch into place (I tried WD40)it helped a little but not a lot.

Hopefully some kind soul will be along shortly to give us the answer !

I saved the information

1/ Using the point of a Stanley knife blade prise off the circular red and green plastic screw covers and the grey cover with Hartal written on

2/ remove the four retaining screws and separate the lock from the caravan door.

3/ On a worktop or bench turn the lock assembly over and remove the circlip and double spring clip to release the locking handle from the lock assembly.

4/Use a round file or sandpaper to slightly enlarge the hole so that the handle moves freely.

5/Add a smear of petroleum jelly and reverse the procedure.

On the Swift caravan forum there has been a lot of talk about the problems with Hartal locks so much so that they are asking any Swift owners in the Midlands to get in touch as there is going to be an investigation and they want to see problem locks without anything being done to them to see what is going on.

I will echo Graham's thanks to Parksy, I may have a look at mine this weekend - mind you this really should be a warranty job - its just too much hassle dragging the van back for an item like this - its annoying though because it was serviced in March and has developed the fault since.

Hi Johny v

Your right in saying it should be a warranty job but like you its a bind having to take it in for one little job that i can do myself. Its about time Hartal sorted it out, they must know by now theres a problem in manufacture of these locks.

I know that it is a warranty job but the new one when fitted will go exactly the same way as your current one so it sort of defeats the object.

My van was less than 8 months old when the Hartal lock began playing up. I followed the repair/fix instructions and since then it has been absolutely perfect.

30 minutes at the very outside will see it done.

I used those instructions to fix the hartal lock on my bailey several months ago. Dont be afraid of DIY'ing it - it really is very easy. Only takes about 20mins which is certainly less hassle than dragging the van to the dealer & then having to pick it up again after.

My Hartal lock (2008 Abbey Vogue) was also sticking down. Supposedly cured on first service last October. I have now followed the procedure and cured it myself. Yes, it really is simple. Too simple for dealer or Hartal!!

HMMMMMM!

That pretty much sums up my attitude to a minor problem which is now verging on ignorance or arrogance on the part of ALL concerned in manufacture and initial installation of this piece of Merd!
