draught and cold wind coming in around the fridge&oven

If the fridge has been installed properly there should not be any draught coming via it.

The fridge should be installed enclosed in a box with the only ventilation being via the external grilles.

This is to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning when the fridge is operated on gas.

Unfortunately, many UK caravan manufacturers omit this as a cost saving exercise.

To hell with safety!!

Rodney, winter covers are only meant to be used when the temperature is below about 8 degrees and are meant to improve the efficiency of the fridge.

The fridge should be sealed around it rear edges to stop any exhaust gas from entering the living area, but depending how old the van is, it may not have been.

If the van is fairly new, it "should" be sealed but there will be a gas drop vent in the floor under it. On no account must this vent be obstructed.

If the draught is really bad, you could fabricate a 3 sided shield to fit under the van to reduce the problem.

In cold weather you can use the covers as quite considerable cold draughs do come in. However as i have said on this Forum our Coachman was like a freezer box with draughs coming through top/sides of fridge and when i spoke to Coachman they said it had passed the neccesary regulations and our service people also said its ok.Anyway i stuffed loft insulation around the fridge and it stopped most of it.

hi rodney

there should not be a draught from around the cooker or fridge as they should be in a sealed unit.

however somtimes the fridge is not in its own unit but it should still be sealed usualy with dense foam stuffed between the fridge and the unit it sits in.

to check if the foam is in place or missing undo the vents on the outside of the van and look inside the unit the foam if present should clearly be seen stuffed around the outside of the fridge unit.

have a look and let us know what you find.
