Draught around fridge FAO Ash @ Swift

Hi Ash,

I hope you can help me with this one. We have just returned from a weekend away in our 2008 ACE Jubilee Equerry and have suffered from a really strong draught blowing from between the fridge and the surround (never noticed this before). The caravan has just had its 1st service and some work was done on the Thetford fridge to remedy a gas operation problem. I am concerned that this work has caused a new problem. Is it normal to have such a strong breeze entering the caravan. I am concerned when we use the fridge on gas that the exhaust is going to be blown into the living area. I have talked to the dealer and they are taking it in to check the installation but have said there will be a charge if no problem is found. Therefore I need to know if this draught is normal or not.

Thanks

Andy

I had this problem on my Lunar Lexon EW. When the wind was blowing hard on the Fridge vent side of the van. I removed the Cutlery draw at the top right side of the fridge and could clearly see a big hole in the fridge cowling where the wiring passed through to the fridge controls. I found some polystyrene type foam and filled the gap. This stopped the draught.

Hi Andy,

Fridge sealing varies between models, but I would suggest it is not normal to have a strong draught through the fridge surround.

The fridge should be sealed on three sides (two verticals and across the top). Without knowing who carried out the work and why, it is difficult to comment why you are experiencing a draught, but it could be that the seals were not replaced once the fridge was removed and refitted. Alternatively, the fridge may not be pushed back far enough to make contact with the seals.

If you are at all concerned about the draught, I would suggest not using the fridge on gas until it has been fully inspected.

I hope that helps.

Hi Ash,

I am dropping the caravan off at Discover Coppull tomorrow. Hopefully they can get this sorted before our next trip in a fortnight.

Cheers

HIya

Did your dealer do anything about yor fridge - I have exactly the same problem with my 2006 Charisma 590 which is currently at dealer being serviced & when spoke to them today they've said it's ok there should be airflow around it!

Don't want to get back on to them on the bounce if they're right! When I look through the cupboard next to the fridge I can see daylight through the top of the fridge vent - I've always thought that was the way it should be & I had to live with the freezing gale that comes thru it on Winter nights until I got talking to another caravanner on site & he was the one who suggested that it wasn't right.

Who's corrct?

Thanks

Col
