Duct tape on rails

Apart from the adhesive being hard to get off, are there any other problems with using duct tape on a rail as additional protection against suspected water ingress?

Thanks

G

I had to use duct tape on my awning rails for the same reason,I found that the silver parted from the sticky backing after a few weeks.I even tried so called UV resistant tape which did the same,& after the repairs were done it was a hell of a job to remove the residue even with sticky stuff remover. There is a tape on the market that is specificly made for this purpose @

Thanks Tony,

Was the stuff you had in mind called Caratape? It was available from a website. It said it lasted 2 yrs and could be removed with a hairdryer. Now the website seems to have disappeared !
