We've booked to go to Dunstan Hill at Easter as River Breamish is fully booked for Easter Saturday. We haven't used CCC sites before - any comments generally about them and Dunstan Hill in particular gratefully received.

Cheers!

Anybody know this site please? Going with friends and hoping it's nice!
Dunstan Hill is quite a large open site, split into 2 fields. Both have toilet blocks (unheated!). Most, if not all, pitches are grass. Electric hook up points are generally arround the outside. Wardens (last June) were very friendly and helpful. There is a small children's play area at the bottom of the site, and a 20 minute walk takes you through to Embleton beach, which is both large and clean. There are a couple of small shops in the nearby village, but suggest you take most of your food for a short Easter break. There are lots of castles and National Trust properties arround, if you are into that sort of thing. Yes, a good site, just a little prone to wind if it's blowing from sea to shore. Recommended.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Dunstan Hill looks ok but after doing a bit of research while in the area on a day trip we found that the toliets and showers were not of a good standard. Good location though. Hope this helps.

Hello Clare & Rob

If you are unsure about the site at Dunstan Hill have a look at the following:

Google: South Meadows caravan park

I can highly recommend this site, albeit it is not 'club' associated, but is up to the same standard as CC. If you want any further information, just let me know.

It does appear to be in the middle of some large storage area. However, these buildings are used primarily for on-site storage of various vehicles, including caravans.

The site itself is 6 miles inland from Bambrough. 1 Mile off the A1, 15 miles south of Berwick and 15 miles north of Alnwick, where there are supermarkets, etc.

We had a seasonal pitch on there before returning to touring. Other than that I have no 'connection'.

Let me know if you need any more information.

Ann

The North East Coast is notorious for wind and rain. However, the scenery is second to none. Take a good supply of warm clothing just in case!

Thanks for all comments. We did have reservations about the toilet/shower facilities as we usually go on CC sites but sure they won't be as bad as Haggerston Castle - Haven, 'nuff said!

We've already booked Dunstan Hill and paid 25% deposit so we'll stick to that this time but we've added South Meadows to our internet favourites for future reference as it looks lovely. We really love the North East so sure we'll be visiting again.

Cheers!

Returned from Dunstan Hill yesterday after 6 nights of wind, hail, snow, sleet and a little sunshine!

The site was nice and the wardens were very friendly - they allowed our friends who arrived a few days before us to reserve a pitch next to theirs and when we arrived, they showed us all the way to the pitch which was much appreciated after a horrible journey up the A1 - only our 2nd outing in the caravan and the weather conditions left a lot to be desired especially as we're new to towing.

As posted by Paul, the site is prone to wind blowing off the sea so we didn't put the awning up which was a shame though we had a go at it on a calmer day so that we know what we're doing next time (never done it before).

However, the lack of heating in the toilet block was really off-putting and would prevent us from returning to the site at this again. To be honest, we might as well have stayed on a CL as the kids were so reluctant to use the facilities as it was so bitterly cold. The older 2 did shower under sufferance midway through the break but we ended up strip-washing our 4 year old in the caravan wetroom (didn't want to use the shower and have to wipe everything down afterwards). Rob & Claire only managed to brave the cold for showers a couple of times too and we were certainly glad we'd taken flip-flops for showering as the tiled floor was freezing. The toilets/showers were clean and the water was very hot though.

We feel a little aggrieved as the 6 night break cost us around
