Our V1 gave up three years ago, The V6 has been great but now only lasts 10 seconds before needing recharging. Dyson tell me I need a new battery at £65.00.
Amazon have a range at least half the price.
What shall I do?.
All help will be appreciated.
cheers

I too had problems with our Dyson battery.
I bought one from that well known auction site at half the price of Dysons.
8 months later.....all is still good👍

I think I’d give either of the sites mentioned if it was half the price, I know from experience returns to Amazon are really easy and I’ve returned item 4-5 times and had no hassle at all.

Amazon are very good so even if after say 12 months it’s duration has reduced significantly you’d have a good chance of a replacement or refund. I’m aware if CRA2015 but taking it to five years or so might be pushing it.

Just to add my two penn'orth. The battery on my Dyson V8 packed in back in May 2019 and I bought a knock off from Amazon. It wasn't the cheapest by far at £54 either.
However it didn't work, I just got error lights on the vacuum so, I returned it for a full refund. Good old Amazon.

I then found someone selling genuine Dyson batteries for £98 on Amazon but before pulling the trigger on the purchase I thought I'd just check on the Dyson website to see what their extortionate price was.
However, you cannot buy a battery online directly from Dyson, they request that you ring them to discuss the issue you are experiencing. So, I did and I spoke to a very knowledgeable guy who asked me about the problem I was having with the battery. He explained that sometimes it isn't a battery but a filter or switch problem and they didn't want to sell batteries to people who didn't need them.
Anyway, he agreed that my battery was on its last legs. So, I asked him how much a replacement would be and held my breath in anticipation. Imagine my total surprise when he announced that a new battery, with next day delivery and a thirty day return window, if not totally satisfied would be £65!
Needless to say, I nearly bit his hand off. The battery arrived, as promised the next day and is still going strong.

I did actually email the seller on Amazon and asked them why they were selling the battery for £33 more than Dyson and they replied saying that they were in short supply and Dyson themselves hadn't got any, really!
:)

I bought one of these fake batteries off ebay for my Dyson handheld-think it's v1-it is better than the original-higher amp hour, for far less than half the price-I would never buy Dyson original-it was guaranteed with Samsung cells-check feedback etc carefully and you can't go wrong!

No generic and was compatible I think the wording was. No Dyson labelling. Not fake as such . Far better run time and advertised as Samsung cells but not about to take it apart to check!

There are so many stories of non OEM batteries causing problems. Remember these are all Lithium based batteries and if there's a fault they WILL catch fire aggressively. Just consider this before going for a Chinese knock off

Aren’t most electrical things these days made in China? Labtec are a USA company but I expect like others get the manufacturing done in China. Most of Dysons kit is made in Malaya, not sure where they source their batteries??

Absolutely. Mine was a UK supplier too. Over a year in it outperforms the original. I've had no issues with any non branded items I've bought and I've bought a lot.

The only battery that I have had problem with was a "Samsung" for one of my cameras. It was purchased on Amazon's a OEM Samsung and the price was akin to other equivalent Samsung labelled batteries. On arrival I found that it would not go into the camera easily as it should. So I returned it via Amazon. It's label looked exactly the same as the cameras original battery but the too tight fitting made me suspicious. No problem with the Amazon return and refund. I suspect it was a "clone" as I would not expect Samsung to have dimensional tolerance issues.

The kit that I have had most battery problems with was a Dyson. I phoned Dyson as the hoover kept cutting out after a short time, sometimes seconds. It was infuriating to use. Dyson said it sounds like the battery and sent another free of charge. But the issue never went away. I since bought two Vax machines, each coming with two batteries. The machines have given great service but are now ready for ditching. But all the batteries are going strong.

I have a Sony SLR camera, must be 10 years old plus. It’s been left for a long time unused. I just got it out again with the intension of using it again or selling it. Both the original battery and the non Sony spare are working perfectly.

A word of advice to anyone looking for a replacement battery for a Dyson vac.

Look at the label on your old battery and see what its rating is. Ours for a V7 was 2800mAh. When you start looking for replacements you will find many of them are 3500/4000/4500mAh. Provided it is the same physical size and fit a higher power will give you longer running time.

Ours will do (and it is rated to do) 40mins - which suits me as I can vac the house in 35mins. However whilst it kept going long enough it did seem to be running slower and not picking up so well. Particularly at high speed it is rated to do 7mins but would barely do more than 6.
I replaced it with a Dyson battery (my wife insisted despite the silly price) but the difference was significant. It lasts longer, runs faster, picks up better, and the high speed will do the seven minutes. Mind you the old battery must have been 7-8 years old!

Amazon, my v6 the only thing left thats original is the bin thing. and cyclone top.

I've replaced the battery at least four times, the tube, the motor body and recently bought an original brush head as replacement ebay ones are rubbish.

Its worth looking on YouTube for a video that shows how to strip your dyson down for cleaning the cyclone tube things, you will be amazed how much ultra fine dust collects and reduces the vacuums effectiveness, do mine once a year, mainly because we use it so much, we have the dyson mains upright but the cordless is so much easier

We are still using the DC14 animal and apart from filter changes and periodic strip down and wash the only things that I have replaced are a couple of belts and the clutch drive assembly. Still picks up phenomenal amounts of dog detritus. Myself and the kids have tried to persuade my wife to try a cordless but no joy thus far.

We went away from the Dysons, to the Shark vacum cleaners. Much lighter and more powerfull, and to prove it to myself, vacumed the front room and lounge with the Dyson Animal, and then with the Shark, the youngest son now has the Dyson.

I did just that Darren. The you tube videos are excellent. Stripping down the cyclone and the core filter was an eye opener. Inside the filter was absolutely choked with hair etc and the ultra fine dust. So it must be working well👏👏.The full clean up and new battery have improved the performance immensely. Funny you just don’t notice the gradual deterioration 😥
