Hi all, just bought our first van after being brought up with Caravanning parents and grand parents. Proud (3rd) owners of a 2000 2 berth Swift Archway Woodford and been going overboard on the kit we need. Picked it up on January and have so far done one night about 7 miles away - just to get used to the towing bit! Trips booked for the next 6 months but didn’t realise we how much there was to learn - toilet chemicals, pup tents, electric hook up! When I was younger it was a 12v car battery, black and white telly and a shower in an awning with a garden sprayer type contraption! Heating was put another jumper on and you used your foot to pump the water - luxury these days! Any advice, good sites, recommendations would be welcome. Stressing a bit about electric and blowing a whole site - have bought low wattage appliances (kettle etc). Have got an external bbq point but not sure what connector I need!!

Hello BFBoys and a big welcome, I’m not qualified to give advice as new and still on a steep learning curve- but can say you’ve come to the right place!
Best wishes Wayne

Hello BFboys ,

Just chill out and take your time when maneuvering and towing don't forget you have something on the back , make sure you go wide when you go round a corner so that you do not clip any curbs . Take what you've got already and then when you are there and you are set up you may start to see what you have and have not got what you need , and make a note of it for next time , don't worry , we've all been there !
Don't worry about tripping the electric on the sites , most people do it on a morning anyway when everyone puts their toaster on and switch the kettle on at the same time ! Just *** out and reset it !

Hi

we are in the East Midlands, too. Not locals, we were born in England :cheer:

As has already been said, dont jump in and buy every gadget you see, figure out over time what you need. Somewhere to keep the beer, something to open it with, and a multimeter will get you through most situations.

What are you towing with?

Welcome to the forum. You seem to have made a good start on your new hobby. I hail from the East Midlands and still travel the Fosse every two weeks to visit my father in Leicester.

Welcome to the forum. If you let us know where you are looking to go and what facilities you want I am sure you will get suggestions.
We normally use a basic kettle from ASDA which is a bit lower wattage than most domestic ones and works well for us. We do still have a low wattage one as well though for the odd site when the power is less than 16 amps. You do need to keep an eye on the total power you are using though.
