Hi, i bought an elecsol 110 battery last october i failed recently (4 weeks ago at easter weekend) the battery has a 5 yr warranty so i thought it would be replaced no bother,I phoned elecsol and told them that the battery was leaking acid from the base of the battery and was told to send in my receipt and warranty card i done this and waited for my new battery.I ccontacted elecsol again and was told the battery was sent on 14 april i waited till monday 19th and phoned again, i was told it would be with me on wed 21st since then i have phoned numerous times and was told it will be with me next week. The man who answers the phone is very abrupt and just loses it with you if you try to get the carriers name and tracking number to trace the battery.I bought the battery after seeing it advertised in the caravan club magazine and endorsed by them,i have contacted the club and told them of my concerns about this company they say they will try to help. Any other steps i can take will be welcomed.

Write to the Managing director of teh company and mark the envelope "confidential".

Explain in detail your problem and the steps you have taken and the fact that their service department is not being helpful.

Keep on to them, I did and the battery did arrive eventually. I agree with you about the person who answers the phone, most abrupt and unhelpful.

I had all the excuses for the non arrival of the replacement, sent to the wrong address, it's with the carrier, the post code was wrong.

The five year warranty is not a lot of good when they are so obstructive.

The product appears to be poor anyway?

My cheap battery bought from the local caravan shop, came with a 2 year guarantee, still working at 6 years old, has never left the caravan, only ever gets a full charge when towing. Did the same with my last van, never had to take one back.

May be i have been lucky, but if its cheap with a 2 year guarantee, and can be exchanged locally, then surly its the better option.

Is this battery available mail order only?

I had a similar problem 4 years ago when my Elecsol battery failed after nearly two years. I contacted Elecsol by phone and found the gentleman on the other end very off hand. I sent all requested confirmation of purchase and warranty as requested but had no response. Further phone calls got me nowhere. I finally contacted the dealer from whom I had purchased the battery. They told me to bring it back and immediately gave me a replacement. The old one was taken out of my boot and placed upon a large pile of Elecsol batteries that had also failed.

Contact your supplier first, your contract was with them and they will have more clout with Elecsol.

I also had problems with a very rude and abrupt person at this company. He is the managing director/call centre clerk and also delivery boy and I have his name and email.

The company is based in Neston and is a one man outfit operating out of a small unit and their advertising certainly can be reported as it is mostly false. I have no idea where there batteries are manufactured.

If you google "Elecsol" you will find plenty of complaints on other caravan forums. Everything you read about this company and customer service seems to be true.

Here is one thread:- http://www.caravantalk.org.uk/topic/9882-elecsol-battery-5-year-guarantee/

Given the number of complaints, i am surprised that the CC accepts there adverts.

Perhaps money talks? But allowing a poor advert in a club mag, is NOT in the best interest of the members?

make a complaint to the companies local trading standards office. Draw their attention to the web site and the the written terms of the gaurantee.

I have often found that when confronted with the type of negative reaction that of i telephone them the following day from my mobile phone and tell them that i will be calling in personally an about an 1 hour then they suddenly change their tune and promise to sortout the issue with out any delay.
