some already have gone that way and reckon that it saves money for light users. I could certainly see how it would be much cheaper for us during the summer when we don't use the heating. I think that most keep a standard rate for EHU because they will make money on the power charged for and power used ratio. Limiting the power than can be used goes to increase that ration and hence profit.

Before I got my van, I had a tent. We used an electric fan heater to keep the tent warm, and it worked pretty well. It was something like £10 from Argos and was thermostatically controlled. It does go on and off a lot due to the poor insulation in a tent (and awning), but it worked fine. It warmed up my tent within seconds, and shut off once upto temp, so wasnt constantly on.

If you did want to get one, I would say get the thermostatically controlled ones.

Not electric, but a good shot of single malt applied internally works pretty well.

When we last visited our favourite CL, which is open all year, the owner told us the power supply from the hook-up point to the caravans had now gone down from 16A to 10A and his prices had gone up, directly as a result of people using awning heaters. He told us some people were even leaving them on in the awning when they go out for the day! At one stage, his supply box burnt out and had to be replaced.

Last year over the October half term we went to Ullwell near Swanage, there was a big family tent with a heater, a full kitchen including deepfat fryer and oven/grill sat in their tent… now there is a recipe for disaster (and high power consumption).
