Electricity charges

It seems that 2009 is going to bring electricity charges as a seperate itemised bill to your pitch.

So far Ive heard of coin operated meters being fitted. Or digital meters where thye are read on arrival and departure.

Cost wise 12p per unit has been mentioned.

I don't mind paying my share for the use of the facility at all, but this does pave the way for site fees to left at 2008 rates and then electric charged on top, thus ammounting to a 15% increase in nightly costs.

What are your thoughts on this?

If it's an attempt to reduce costs then I'm all in favour. However the sceptic in me says that the set up costs will be passed on to the pitch fee.

I can understand where some site operators are finding themselves out of pocket, especially in cold weather. Some people probably leave heaters switched on high all day, even use them non stop in the awning too.

To be honest I could manage quite happily with just enough electricity to top the battery up and otherwise use gas. That way I'd be my own regulator because I pay for the gas directly !

Great move; the user pays.

It beggers belief how much some clients manage to consume based on the argument "they have paid for it and are jolly well going to use it".

This way the reasonable amongst us will not be subsidising those people and I am sure it will be good for the environment.

Personally I prefer the all in price.

However as usual the selfish pigs are spoiling it for the rest of us.

Last september at CC Freshwater East a couple went out every day and left a 1000watt halogen fire buring in the awning!! It was also kept on at night. God knows what fires were burning in the caravan.

If we were all that selfish then I am afraid the site owners will have no choice but to charge seperately for electricity.

I have the villains car make and reg no, now where's that piece of paper???

Cheers

I agree with you there Alan.

Fancy those people leaving a heater unattended, never mind the cost, it's a safety issue.

Yes we run or CL to make a profit and we do, we have put up our fees per night in order to maintain a margin due to our uncreased costs. I would add you must be making a profit otherwise you would not be caravaning. Profit to me is money that is left over when I have covered all my expenses.

Stephen, be reasonable! All businesses, be they supermarkets or CLs, have to make a profit, otherwise they couldn't survive!

A friend has a C&CC CS, and he is considering closing down from October to March, because of the amount of electricity used by campers in the winter: in other words, he cannot make a profit.

I quite agree that any business should be profitable otherwise it would not be viable for the owners to carry on.

However, what I don't support is those who will undoubtedly use this oportunity to leave their already built in electricity cost on the pitch fee and then expect us to pay over and above average Kw/unit consumption charges.

Since March, I've been out of the household utility circuit as I'm in my tourer full time. However having said that, even with a heater in the awning going at 1Kw 24/7, I don't use more than

We have a farm suppling products to the likes of Mr Tesco and needed to diversify as we were finding it hard to make ends meet. We had a meadow which was under used so we applied to the CC for a cl and were excepted. so we had no capital costs for the land. we have added the basics IE electrics and water as starters, as funds become available we put in a small summerhouse which has leaflets and a small library in it . TV reception is not good so plans are for this winter to put in a digital system. Yes we do make some money from our CL and this winter has been good because we have had 4 long stays , in summer we have a problem as the weekends are full and weekdays underused. We have made allot of friends and have great fun meeting new people. As we are not in a tourist area I am surprised at how well our CL is used. Now for the crunch would it have been worthwhile investing in the land to set up as a CL.

unless you have a very big garden or like us a farm, I would say no you could not get a good return on your investment.Just look at the sums .if you had a full CL for 90 days a year you would have a gross income of

According to the CC magazine this month there are plans to launch an all electric caravan in 2010.

It's not surprising site owners are getting twitchy !

No site owner is allowed to pass on the cost of installing meters etc and when meters are installed they can only charge exactly what the owner is charged unless they have a supplier's licence. On average a caravan hooked up will use no more than 8 or 9 units per day and at 15p per unit this equates to between "
