Electronic Stability Program [ESP].

I wonder if there is someone out there who could tell me and other caravanners out there who have ESP fitted to their cars. l have just taken delivery of a Nissan xtrail Aventura which has this system fitted.l want to know would it make a snake worse when towing or would it help dampen down any problems that would arise. This system can be switched off. Any comments gratefully received.

ESP should not be detrimental to stability. In fact, later developments (ESPplus) are specifically designed to recognise a towed trailer and to react accordingly if the back end of the car senses sideways forces due to a snake. I don't know whether the ESP fitted to the Nissan is of this type but others, like Vauxhall (in combination with TSP, Trailer Stability Programme), VW, Mercedes, etc. work very well as an additional stabilising feature.
