Any eggheads on here that can recommend a safe emoticon site?
The one on here is very basic to say the least.

When you type a reply John, in the bit above the reply box where there's a load of (meaningless - well, they are to me!!! lol) symbols, there's a smiley face at the right. Just click on that and it will bring up a little box with a few emoticons. There's no rolling eyes one though, despite my MANY requests for one!

At the bottom of the reply box should be the words Input Format. Click on this and make sure that the click button for Full HTML is selected.
If you have 'Filtered HTML' selected you will only be able to use plain text John.

Not quite, but I think you're along the right lines (since Full and Filtered both allow emoticons and formatting). John, do you have javascript turned off in your browser? Or are using an iPad/smartphone?

It appears now that I CAN access emoticons but that its via a row of boxes with no words or symbols (meaningless or otherwise) to indicate what they are
If I place the cursor arrow in the vacant box a small window opens below to say what the box is for

Any sensible replies to why this is occuring would be appreciated

Does it kind of look like this, where the box appears when you hover over it and then a tooltip appears after a few seconds telling you what it does?

It looks like that but there are 28 boxes across the page and if you put the cursor arrow over it a small rectangulat box appears underneath with eg :" emotions" (tool tip )
Note emotions is what it says not emoticons ----

Emotions/emoticons, all the same thing. Do you have any image or advertising blocking switched on in your browser? It looks like you're having problems getting the images related to the toolbar - which is not something we can do anything about. The only way I was able to recreate the problem was by using a tool in Firefox which prevents images from being loaded...

Like annoying advertising banners for example......especially those involving bosoms?

No, I have special developer tools which prevent the loading of most images, but which can detect a bosom advert and let it through. Dashed clever, these IT people.
