My understanding is that the empty (unladen weight) is as the van left the factory so gas bottle and battery not included however the spare wheel will be if it comes with the van in the underslung carrier.

Yes, Plotter's correct. But don't take the empty weight, or MIRO, that you find published anywhere to be the gospel truth. Because the empty weight is specific to each caravan, any general data, even what you find in the handbook, can only be a guideline figure. If you want or need to know it accurately, there's no way round putting it on a weighbridge.

Have a look in your handbook, it should list what is standard and what is an option. For example the Bailey handbook is quite specific on weights of stuff - the MIRO includes the standard equipment that's supplied with the van as it leaves the factory - ie if a spare wheel, front chest or rooflight is in the standard spec then it's weight is included, but if it's an option (ie extra cost) then the additional weight becomes part of the user payload, this applies to options like front chest units, rooflights, spare wheels and even fatter cushions if they are not part of the standard spec.

Even so, published data is only a guideline. Measurements have shown, for example, that the weight of a caravan can vary up to 15kg depending on whether it is weighed on dry or on a wet day. This is due to moisture absorbed in the insulation and has nothing to do with damp.

I agree with Lutz on this one. Weights quote by any manufacturer are only a basic guide.

To get accurate weights you should use a ministryof transport approved weighbridge.
