My daughter and family in NZ have had a Bailey Award (I think) for 12 years and it was about 5 years old when they bought it. Very few problems and we've spent many a good time staying in it as well.

A week or so back after a heavy thunderstorm they went out to check it and noticed some water at the front windows. They then notice the top of the centre window (it has 3 seperate windows) was bowed out. They took it to a local dealer they've used on and off and got the dreaded damp rot report over the windows. NZ$6000 to repair.

They've decided to sell it as is as its not used so much these days as the grandchildren are much older and want to do their own thing, Its being sold as is with the damp rot highlighted.

We've been away with them many a time in it so we will miss it as well. Not sure what their plans are for the future. Caravans of any type in NZ are very expensive, especially the UK ones.

Sorry to hear that news, although at 17 years it’s paid for itself times over, and has given lots of enjoyment. It’s difficult to know what comes next, as our experience is that owning and using a caravan is not easy to replace, and even now our holidays are no substitute for caravanning.

End of an era for all your family, but great and happy memories which will stand the test of time. Look on the bright side and look forward to new and happy ones with everyone entering a new stage. Wishing you and you r family a wonderful time in the future.

They had an offer for it from a dealer. Lower than they would have liked but since there weren't any others they agreed, subject to WOF (Mot). Unfortunately the WOF found more damp/rot at the rear and failed. Unusually the technician was more thorough than usual otherwise it would have passed.

They dropped the price a bit more and it's gone. A sad day but no longer a liability. The money is going towards a newish battery for their EV.

A weight off of their minds. Do you mean a newish propulsion battery? if so what EV and how old is its existing battery. That will not be cheap.

It's for a 2nd Generation Nissan Leaf. Not sure of the age but current battery is about 30% of life and range is only 60 to 70 km.

They can't get new batteries in NZ so have to get a used one which will give them about 70% battery life and more than double the range. Last time we spoke about it I think the figure was about NZ$6000.

As an aside NZ has just introduced road user charges for EVs. Previously only diesel cars had this. Reason is too many EVs on the road not paying fuel duty.

Double whammy for hybrid owners. These are petrol/battery so fuel duty at the pump plus road user charge.

Some unhappy Kiwis.
